Duty Free/Cigarettes

Tough question (my brand also). I have never been on the Star, but since nobody has chimed in I thought I would tell you my experience. Not on Pearl last year but YES on Pearl this year (but only short ones, not 100's). NO on the Jewel in Aug or the Sun in December, but YES on the Dawn 2-day in October. The two things I have noticed: I smoke 100's, so I tend to smoke almost twice as many of the short ones. They have a "harsher" taste and effect (on lungs) than the ones I buy at home - this is an odd thing that I have noticed with almost all duty-free cigarettes. I don't know what yours cost at home, we are in NJ where they are highest price in the country; I buy them in FL before I board.

Be safe and bring a few packs just to be sure. On most of the ships we have sailed they do carry them, but not 100s as Fisthbait has already mentioned. Another thing to consider, at anytime NCL may decide not to let you buy cartons and take to your cabin. This happened to me on Princess in January. I was floored! It was like buying liquor, you couldn't pick up until the last full day at sea. I could be wrong, but I think the same thing happened to us on Celebrity. So, at anytime the cruiselines can decide, if it is duty free you can't take position until the end of the cruise. I had to buy them by the pack at the casino bar. Luckily they were still cheaper than at home and mostly only smoke when I gamble so I only needed to buy 1 pack.

The reason for the harsh taste is most duty free cigs are made a little differently than the one's sold in the US. European/foreign tastes dictate a little stronger blend.

I can get cigs locally for $9.95 per carton. If I load up a couple of suitcases, how many cartons to I have to sell on board to pay for my cruise? :D

OMG!! I could pay for your cruise in a month :D.. (Not true - I don't smoke THAT much!) We are paying over $60 a carton here now.
