Italy Train Help Please, Experts??

We love to go off on our own, and we typically do research before and have a great game plan each day to go. We can't find any good information on taking the train to Rome and Taking the train to Florence. Main thing we are missing is the train schedules and experiences?

We found something on TrenItalia but it doesn't show many trains, for Rome which worries us. We have read some of the information that covers getting to the station etc.. timing is really our concern. Any help out there?

Thanks

Where exactly do you want to go..from ..to?? Are you talking about getting from the ports to Rome and Florence???Just read down this page or the 2nd page as there is train info for Florence and further reading will get you info on train to Rome. If it is getting from one city to the other it is really easy as well. Here is a link in case is is different than the one you have that may help..

trying to get from port to city, the confusing part is finding a schedule? Tren italia website only lists a few trains. Some people say it is because they are national trains vs. regional trains. Trying to do pre planning but can't seem to find a train schedule for the regional trains that run from port to city.

There is a lot of inof on thgis board re your very question if you have the time to do a search..or some nice person who has done it sees this and replies. I can't help you train from port to city.I do know it is very doable as it is a commuter train and runs very frequently, and the train station is not all that far from the port entrance.Cost is very low as well.I am sure the info will be given here if you don't find it on a search.:)

OK GFSU (and others), you are only finding a few trains when you look at Trenitalia. Don't dispair as this is norm for this time of year. June is schedule change/update time. What that means is beginning in mid-late April the schedule gets wiped clean. Slowly, beginning with the faster trains, schedules begin to appear. It appears to take several weeks to go full cycle (at least it did last year.) Eventually the full schedule will appear again, and in all probability be the same as the old schedule.

What does this mean? It means searching for trains that are within the current calendar schedule. If you want to travel on a Tuesday in August, search for a train for next Tuesday. You should get a full schedule. There is about a 99% probability that that schedule will match the one that will be published later for your August date. If nothing else, it is good for planning purposes.
