Motleu Posted May 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I would love to know the many reasons people love to cruise. For me it is the solitude late at night (or early in the morning depending on your perspective) when there is no one else on the upper deck forward and the wind is blowing with the moonlight shining across the water! Nothing but ocean on all sides! Solitude at it best (even with 2500+ people below!)
cb at sea Posted May 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I love being waited on, and on a cruise, that's what you get! Not having to do anything except relax by the pool, have a drink, dress for dinner....all very nice! Plus, no deciding "where do you want to go?"--it's all decided for you! Lovely! willysgrandma Posted May 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I love cruising because everything is included, you pack and unpack once and you have the opportunity to see 4 or 5 countries in a week. We started out saying we'd cruise so we can find an island we loved and then go back for a week long vacation. But we ended up just cruising every year because we loved it so much. 01821 Posted May 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2008 For us, cruising is the ultimate in relaxing vacations. Sitting on the balcony with drinks, reading in the Solarium, lovely meals in the dining room, fun in the Casino, and on and on. We enjoy soe excursions, but also love staying on board during port days, enjoying having the ship to ourselves. :)
antomoli Posted May 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2008 That is an easy one. Because a cruise is like no vacation on earth. Thank's RCI!
dgwags Posted May 24, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I'm always relaxed. I don't know why but I am. On a land vacation, and I do love those also, I'm not always relaxed.
mark290 Posted May 24, 2008 #8 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I have found the U.S. extradition procedure is hampered greatly when I am on a cruise.

morgan1312 Posted May 24, 2008 #10 Share Posted May 24, 2008 We like cruising because we can all do our own thing during the day and not worry about what time we're meeting where. When we travel with other family members the only constant is that we'll all be at dinner together, that way if the girls want to sit by the pool and the guys want to catch a nap at the afternoon movie, it's fine. We tend to pick an area in each place that we go to if we're there, that way they know about where to find me if they want to join me for bingo without searching the whole room, or if we happen to go to the windjammer for breakfast, we know where others in our party will be if they're there, keeps us from calling and waking up anyone who decides to sleep in on sea days. I'd be happy to just cruise all sea days for the week, although we still do get off and explore or do excursions at all the ports. The last land vacation we did was at Disney in Fla, we had 4 - 40 somethings, 1 - 30 something 2 - teens and 1 - 5 yr old. I was so stressed trying to keep everyone together in the parks or at least meeting up after each ride I needed a vacation when I got home from there. On a cruise with those same family members I just say 'I'll see you at dinner if not before'.
Brad1185 Posted May 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I am thrilled to lock up the cell phone, wallet, keys etc in the safe. I also like menus without prices and when done eating I like to leave right away, no waiting for the check waiting longer for change no figuring out tips with each meal, I like a table waiting for me and not having to wait or mess with reservations. Homeschoolmom69 Posted May 24, 2008 #12 Share Posted May 24, 2008 We love to cruise because it's a great way to unwind and "get away from it all." :D It's also a wonderful opportunity to visit several different places in a short amount of time. Philly Steve Posted May 24, 2008 #13 Share Posted May 24, 2008 I just love being at sea. It's also a treat to be surrounded by a luxury hotel and guests who are happy to be there. Cruise ships are wonderful social equalizers and I've met so many people at sea with amazing vocations. :)

truffles2 Posted May 24, 2008 #16 Share Posted May 24, 2008 All of the above mentioned reasons....especially because I don't have to do anything! My BIL & SIL went with us a couple of years ago and she said it was the first time in her life she hadn't had to do anything. She had a hard time---she was always stacking up the dishes for the waiters, etc:p
Cruise Away Posted May 24, 2008 #17 Share Posted May 24, 2008 What's not to like!!! Down time, no dishes, special occasions, no drinking and driving, Yahtzee on the balcony with a drink and my hubby, sleeping in, shore excursions, Sea View Cafe for a late snack, room service, Bingo, a show each night, this next one is with no kids, etc....................... Nothing but ocean on all sides! Solitude at it best (even with 2500+ people below!) I like to be able to go on vacation and not have to worry about booking hotels and every last detail of the trip. Honestly, it makes me nervous and I'm worried I'll mess something up. This way, I let a cruise take me to different ports, I get to come back to the ship everynight and never have to worry about a meal or transporting myself to the next location! Plus, there is something special about being out on the open water. I'm not really sure what it is...solitude like you mentioned perhaps. The quietness of a hand full of people catching the sunrise before breakfast or everyone quietly enjoying the last sunset on the last night of the cruise. There is a peacefulness there, in those moments, that I really enjoy. Especially after I kill myself in every port ;)
iluvkst Posted May 26, 2008 #19 Share Posted May 26, 2008 I was a flight attendant for 7 years and so I have basically 'been there, done that'. I'm over doing the 'tourist thing'. Now, when I go on vacation I just want to be fed, watered, entertained, and pampered. I don't want to drive. I don't want to pull out my wallet every 30 minutes, and I don't want to read any stupid map in order to get someplace. I also want to be assured that my child will be happy and occupied with the type of structured activites that he enjoys--that is a true vacation to me and that's why I am hooked on cruising! Also, there's just a special feeling I get ONLY when I am on a cruise ship. When I'm on a cruise I just feel like I have (finally) escaped the rat race that I seem to face at home. It feels like a totally different world to me. My question to RCI is this: how am I ever supposed to save up money to buy a house if I keep having to go on their newest, biggest ship???:p

TSCOTT Posted May 26, 2008 #22 Share Posted May 26, 2008 For us, cruising is a good value for our money as the transportation, meals and entertainment are all included in the price. Everything you need is onboard a cruise ship, including shopping, and you really want for nothing. You also unpack one time, but have the opportunity to visit different ports of call. To tops things off, our service experience while cruising has always been very good and you also have relaxing days as sea to just sit back and chill. Fishbooks Posted May 26, 2008 #24 Share Posted May 26, 2008 I love the all-inclusive aspect - I don't have to think about how much I want to spent on breakfast, lunch or dinner. I like the "small town" atmosphere - everything I want is within walking distance! I like the service - my bed is made and towels changed twice a day - hotels only do this once. I feel relaxed and l can do as much or as little as I want - activities and shows are there for me to choose as my mood dictates.
FreqTraveler Posted May 26, 2008 #25 Share Posted May 26, 2008 As others have said, I love cruising for the relaxation! When we vacation, we usually stay very active and are always on the go. With cruising, you are forced to relax more and we don't use our cell phones or computers. I love it!
