May I ask, what exactly is a Mariner Tile ? Are they only given to certain cruisers ?

We sailed with Hal for the first time last year and I didn't see any Mariner Tiles. (didn't know to look for them perhaps).

Now that you've sailed on HAL, you are a Mariner. You'll receive a tile on your next HAL cruise. They are delivered to your cabin by your steward.

They seem like a fun commemorative from a cruise. Can you purchase them onboard.??

They appear to be some what "delft" like from the posting. What size are they?

Clearly I'm a bit of a neophyte when it comes to Hal cruising ,thanks for your time.:)

This is a Mariner tile

Revneal....your reports and pictures are wonderful. This friday will be my first HA cruise and I am very excited. Only a 3 nighter,so I would like to ask your opinion on what not to miss on this ship. Any feedback on the casino?

Also, what has your experience been using the NYC pier to embark/disembark.....this is also a first for me leaving from NYC.

Thanks very much.

What do you do with them?
Some people leave them on the ship, or toss them in a drawer at home. Some use them for drink coasters. Many people (including me) set up displays of them.

Whatever you want - some collect them - some give them away - some leave them in their cabin - it's up to you. They're free, just an added touch by HAL

Does anyone have a link to a pdf of the Eurodam dining room seating? Is it similar to Noordam and Westerdam?

I use them as coasters. I know of one individual who used them as accent tiles when she tiled her kitchen.

I have a diagram of the Eurodam Upper dining room, and it is very similar to the Noordam's. Besides giving Noordam tables A,B,C,D, and E numbers (301 to 305), I see the following differences:

Noordam round table 53 for 6 is a rectangualr table for 8 on Eurodam

Noordam table 46 was a 4-top, while Eurodam's is a 6.

Noordam table 10 for 4 has been changed to a 2.

Noordam table 32 has been eliminated.

If you would like the E'dam diagram, email me

I have the upper dining room diagram as well. It is really similar to Noordam and Westerdam, but there are many more 2 tops (I counted about 23).

I'm sorry about not remembering to address this:

What not to miss on the Eurodam on a 3-day cruise:

1. The Tamarind

2. The Silk Den

3. The Deck-5 Forward Observation deck

4. The Lido Deck aft pool area and "Slice"

5. The cast shows (I greatly enjoyed them)

Also, what has your experience been using the NYC pier to embark/disembark.....this is also a first for me leaving from NYC.

I've cruised from that pier twice aboard the Noordam. My experience, on both occasions, was positive in that approach to the pier for embarkation was in a Limo with friends. Our luggage was taken out of the Limo and handed to the longshoremen (whom I tipped) and then on in to the terminal where we were given numbers and invited to sit and wait to be called for check-in. It was a nice process in that one didn't have to stand forever. Disembarkation was easy and quick. I booked a bus transfer to the airport through HAL. I put my luggage out in the hall, collected it when I disembarked, and took my bags to the bus for the trip to the airport. Easy.

Have a great trip tomorrow.

Very Well said, Brian!!!!!!!! I agree with EVERY word. As you know, I have written Seattle a very, very long letter stating my disappointment with my Eurodam cruise. I have 610 days on Hal and have been sailing with Hal since 1962. This was , by far, my worst cruise ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will let you know if Hal even responds to my letter. Not holding my breath. I am gold on Cunard, which is less cruises and days than gold on Hal. I get so many more perks with them and the service, even in Hal's best days has been far superior. I may be switching to Cunard. We can always sail with the gang on Cunard!!!!

Adele, I got thinking about you today. I was talking to a friend who was recently on an Alaska HAL cruise. He is not a member of CC and he was telling me about how he had problems with his water pressure in his shower and wrote HAL and just received back a very nice letter from Seattle. So I was wondering if you ever heard back about your problems on the Eurodam?

Greg, We are just baack from the 3 day cruise on the Eurodam and I just wanted to say that your review was right on and still going on. Although we

as a group had a great time, the service was not up to HAL standards. We also spent alot of time walking around the ship saying "What were they thinking". They got the Noordam right and then went overboard on this. Please HAL leave things alone. Allso saw and talked to Martha several times.

Lisa,

I got a three page letter back. It addressed ALL the problems. They have given me a VERY GENEROUS credit. That was NOT why I wrote the letter. I simply wanted Hal to know that this cruise and ship are NOT up to Hal standards. They agreed. Adele

Good for you Adele. Can you remind me. Were you on the 10 night, 13 night, 23 night etc? And you had the problem with the plumbing?

I am glad to hear this as when REVneal was posting live, I was the one that seemed to be totally outraged by the plumbing issue. With the issue you had regarding raw sewage in your room, balloons or no balloons, they should have been generous. That could ruin a trip.

I have been traveling all summer and have just been able to read this thread. The reviews and pictures are fantastic. Besides the new Eurodam, I think every ship and issue of controversy has been covered. We are looking at a cruise on the Oosterdam, which was included in some of these posts.

Because there was not a HAL cruise that fit in with our summer travel plans we were on the Carnival Splendor when it left the shipyards in Genoa. I was expecting a fairly chaotic 8 days because of the ship being new.....but it was unbelievably fantastic. The dining room service was exemplary and we did not experience any of the problems that seemed to be experienced by diners on the Eurodam. Of course, this was just our experience.

There are two things that seem to repeat themselves in this thread: (1) the unpleasant encounters with obnoxious adults and/or children, and most important to me (2) the incredible experience of cruising with friends and meeting new friends.

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is able to use all of the info included in this thread to plan their next cruise.

Cherie

Jade,

I was on the 20 day cruise and I had the plumbing problems. I also have 640 days on Hal and am the third generation in my family to sail Hal. I KNOW that BOTH of those things helped me to get my GENEROUS credit toward a cruise. Hal needed to hear about the problems. Adele
