tanker47 Posted October 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2004 We generally cruise at least once a year and booked the Mariner for November 14th almost a year ago. Had really been looking forward to it until we were hit with 3 out of the 4 hurricanes which struck Florida this year. Also had 2 floods from the river we live on and the last one surrounded the house for almost a month. It's finally back into it's banks but the yard looks like a war zone. Somehow leaving all of the work which needs to be done just doesn't seem right. Not complaining, just stating the facts. Happy Cruising........ iluvorlando Posted October 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2004 I certainly can relate to how you are feeling. HOWEVER...We have a cruise booked for June/05 and there is no way I'm not going on that cruise. We deserve a break to rejuvenate our spirits!! Hope you can get back in the cruising mood! FlorenceItaly Posted October 24, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2004 I was on her last month, and she is fabulous, such a gorgeous ship. It will be nice for you to get away and just relax. Have a wonderful cruise, and I will be anxious to hear your thoughts upon your return. It was my first Voyager ship and it will not be my last :). GranysT Posted October 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2004 ExaltHim,the Mariner last April, was also my first Voyager class ship and I totally agree with you. She's a beautiful and magnificent ship. Tanker, I fully understand your feeling about leaving a mess, but don't miss your cruise. Go enjoy, relax, and come back rejuvenated and ready to take on your huge challenge. After what you have just been through you deserve some fun. Go For It! FlorenceItaly Posted October 24, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2004 I was not sure how I would feel about the Voyager class ship, because there is much discussion on the size. Some prefer the smaller ships. I REALLY thought I would come home preferring the smaller size ship as that is all I have sailed and really enjoyed them. You see in June I cruised on Holland America, Maasdam, in August, HAL again, the Veendam, and really enjoyed getting to know others, etc..(also Enchantment of the Seas, last Nov.)..Well, I stepped on the Mariner, and OH MY GOODNESS!!! I LOVE the Voyager Class. Just last week, dh and I were on the Rhapsody of the Seas...while we had a wonderful time, I don't know if I will book anything but the Voyager Class when cruising RCI. The Mariner spoiled me. I cruised the Mariner with my sis, and I just HAVE to go on her again with my dh. I am headed out next weekend(solo), on a smaller ship once again, first time on Celebrity, but know I will enjoy it...it will be a different experience than RCI. GranysT Posted October 24, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2004 Marie, this is funny but I felt exactly the same as you.The Mariner was my 9th cruise, with all the other's both Carnival and RCL,on ships around the 45,000 to 77,000 ton size.I just wasn't sure about a ship with over 3,000 pax and a 1,000 crew.I wanted to try a Voyager class ship,at least once. When I stepped on board and first saw that atrium,I know my jaw dropped open. No matter how many reviews you read,or how prepared you think you are,it is simply amazing. Within 10 minutes,I knew that I just loved that ship. The only thing that was an irritant, was the wait for elevator's most of the time. They simply do not have enough of them, for that many people.I have bad knee's,so stairs are very hard for me and I can only do 1 or 2 level's maximum for stairs. So, we had to spend considerable time waiting at elevator's.I also hated how horribly crowded the Windjammer was,so we opted for other area's for eating.Room service for breakfast on our balcony, was delightful. We had 1 of the 2 out front balcony's on the hump, deck 7,and it was perfect. I normally hate to see a cruise end,but for Mariner I really really hated to have to leave. I now hate the fact that RCL is raising the price of cruising so much more.Luckily, I booked Grandeur for July 05 right before the new pricing started. I do so want to sail another Voyager class ship, and also would like to try a Radiance class as well, but they might price out of my range. FlorenceItaly Posted October 24, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2004 I know what you are saying. I have done a ridiculous amount of cruising this year, and have had 3 booked for 2005 for a long time now....glad I did, as it may be the end for us too....or maybe down to every other year. Ideally, I would like for us to cruise 2 times a year. Marie
rfische1 Posted October 24, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2004 I felt the same way before my recent cruise on the Mariner. I recently started back at school and was in the middle of the semester with papers and tests. 4 weeks prior I was struck with a flu that laid me up for two weeks. The news of the hurricanes had me nervous and one of our ports, Grand Cayman, was cancelled. About 2 weeks prior there was a question whether we were going to be able sail from Port Canaveral. Well, we went and about 3 days into the cruise, I was able to relax and enjoy it. By the time it was over, I had tears in my eyes. The friendships made and cemented made it one of the best weeks in my life. The snorkeling we did on Cozumel was an experience that won't be forgotten soon. We enjoyed it so much, we booked a similar cruise for next year.
SA Traveler Posted October 25, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 25, 2004 Tanker 47 - it is difficult for anyone who hasn't experienced it to relate to what you have been through but maybe it would be good for you to get away from it for a few days and relax. If you can manage it, go for it.

lisajoy Posted October 25, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2004 The only time I never wanted to cruise was right before my first one. Now I am hooked. I need to buy a waterbed.
