Tips for ports in Western Med

Recommended Posts

We will be cruising for the first time in Nov. 09 for our honeymoon. We are going on voyager of the sea and will leave from Barcelona. Any tips about traveling in the ports, what private tour company to use or what we should or should not do while we are there. we will be in Italy in our ports, and are very excited to experience the culture!

We're cruising the Western Med. in Sept. 2008

and from what I've been reading,

you should beware of pickpockets in all European cities

and it seems Rome has ruthless taxi-drivers(their description, not mine)

so try not to use them.

You will get lots of info if you check or post on the Europe Ports of Call forum elsewhere on CC. You can use the search facility as well.

I agree that it is important to be aware that pickpockets operate in crowded places but it is a worldwide problem not just in European cities. I have travelled extensively in Europe, Asia, North America, Caribbean and South America and only had my pocket picked once and that was in CHICAGO.

Just take care that you don’t carry large amounts of money and your cards in vulnerable places – a neck wallet is a good option. Make a note f your card details and contact numbers in your cabin safe ..... just in case

Another great place to get good information about your cruise is the Roll Call section; find your ship and sailing date then join the group.

Which ports are on your itinerary?

We went on the Legend of the Sea from Rome last summer - 12 night Med/Egypt; review and photos in the links below.

We are booked for the Brilliance of the Seas from Barcelona next summer.

Have a wonderful wedding and honeymoon -- Congratulations!

Kathy:)
