KEY WEST, Fla. -- Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas ship was hit Friday morning by a barge while at port in Key West.

The Coast Guard said there was an 8-foot hole in the side of the ship. The hole is above water, so the ship is not taking on water, officials said.

Authorities said the ship apparently was hit while docked -- there is a mark about 50 feet long down the side of the ship.

The ship has been taking more than 2,000 passengers on cruises since going into service in 1997. The ship is popular for travelers, featuring amenities like conference rooms, a rock-climbing wall, a casino, a shopping center and many outdoor pools.

This is terrible! This ship just left Fort Lauderdale yesterday and the passengers had only one night of fun. (Fort Lauderdale, Key West, Cozumel, Sea Day, Fort Lauderdale)

On a brighter side...it is 82 degrees there right now and if I were stuck somewhere, that sounds nice to me, but hopefully not under those circumstances. :)

How sad! Didn't she just come out of "renovations"? Sounds like she'll need some major repairs again. I am so sorry for the passengers on her now and those that have her booked soon!

she's not going in until the Spring for her stretching. Hopefully she will be as good as gold come January. I feel bad for all those there right now though.

According to the local papers, the repairs have already been made and the ship will continue on to Cozumel as planned.

I am sure the ship is underway again due to the good sense of some of the passengers to bring plenty of duct tape.
