meliss35 Posted November 18, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2008 Is there shopping near the ship? Is it safe to walk around there?
wdowns9 Posted November 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2008 There is a tourist bldg at the pier that will have just about anything you are looking for. This port is a working container port and I would not venture ourside the confines of the tourist building. You can take a water taxi to Livingston or hire a taxi to take you into town. The town is not a tourist stop so many of the shops support the locals and that is about it.
jcjky Posted November 27, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2008 The port building is filled with local merchants with many unique local crafts. There is also entertainment dancers singers. Drinks and food to buy and several local tour agencies. If you want some unique souvenirs that you won't find anywhere else this is the place. The Wizard of Waz Posted December 27, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2008 We just came back from a 14 day cruise on the P. Island and this was, without a doubt, the best shopping on the cruise. Looking back, we should have bought a lot more. Save your $$$!
harryjr Posted December 27, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Santo Tomas is definitely THE place to pick up that special gift. Not only are the crafts authentic (nothing made in China) and beautiful, but many of the vendors start with a price and if you take a step toward the next stall, the price is immediately reduced--sometimes in half or more! I'm not a shopper, but this place really got my attention.
padresfans Posted December 30, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 30, 2008 Was our favorite stop. Vendors were all friendly, not pushy. And as others said, everything looks and feels authentic. We took the waterfall tour and were not disappointed. This is a place we would like to make a return visit.
