Which Currency - Panama canal cruise

Hi - we are on the Coral Princess cruise from LA 12/23/08 visiting Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicarague, Colombia and I wondered what currency to take with me. Are US$ widely accepted, do I change on the ship or wait till I get to the country itself - any assistance would be appreciated

Nosca US currency is widely accepted. i just make sure that I take small bills on shore with me so i am not stuck with a lot of foreign currency. it has always worked for me in prior cruises and on foreign soil. In fact I am doing the same cruise but next April and that is what I am planning on doing.
