Scootercruise Posted January 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2009 Hello everyone, my wife and I are booked on the Star Princess from Seattle rt May 31, I've been reading all the boards, but just a few questions. We are going to book a whale watching tour, either Harv and Marv, or Orca, I see where both will drop you off at Mendenhall, but are they able to go near the glacier ? We go into Tracy Arm before Juneau, so hopefully we will see one of the Sawyer glaciers. Also, roughly how close to Mendenhall is the visitors center and viewing area ? Thanks for any help. :)
knorrisb07 Posted January 10, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2009 Mendenhall glaciers is at a park like setting. So, they will drop you off at visitor center. Then there is a trail leading up to the lake where you can view the glaciers.
Budget Queen Posted January 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2009 Mendenhall Glacier is "viewable" from your whale watch. :) As mentioned, you will be dropped off near the visitor center, and have full view of the glacier. Be aware, you have NO access to the glacier. As for Tracy Arm, you have essentially no chance of making the full 30 mile transit, going in your timeframe. So make other glacier viewing tour choices if glaciers are a priority.
Scootercruise Posted January 10, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks for the help,we do realize it's a bad time to go into Tracy Arm, but it fit our schedule and budget the best. Either way we will go and have a great time, never had a bad cruise. :)
