blubionda Posted May 17, 2010 #804 Share Posted May 17, 2010 SHIP: Celebrity Solstice CABIN #: 1206 DECK (#): Sky (10) CLASS: C1 AREA: Aft BED NEAR: Balcony QUIET?: Yes with exception of room attendant supply closet activity on occassion (very minor and of no inconvenience to us personally). BALCONY VIEW: Wonderful - view of wake and either side of ship (after passing by, of course). Wake is "spotlighted" in the evenings and is beautiful to watch (wake can be admired from Sunset/Oceanview bars and Tuscan Grille as well). BALCONY SIZE: Largest of AFT cabins due to supply closet next door. WIND A PROBLEM?: No SOOT A PROBLEM?: Yes, a little bit PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Last year we had #1200 with no soot and this time in #1206, had a bit of soot almost every day. However, another poster who had #1206 two weeks earlier had no soot = leads me to believe it's simply a result of which way the wind is blowing as to whether or not you will have a problem with soot on an AFT balcony. Also, outside this cabin is where room attendants keep all supplies for am/pm cabin service - if it bothers you to have the carts/hampers outside your room for several hours a day, you might want to choose another location. alivenwell Posted May 17, 2010 #805 Share Posted May 17, 2010 SHIP: Celebrity Solstice CABIN #: 9376 DECK (#): Panorama (9) CLASS: C1 AREA: Aft BED NEAR: Balcony QUIET?: Very. In a small alcove with the Sky Suite. BALCONY VIEW: Awesome! Our first time in an aft cabin and loved it. 180 degree view and the wake is pretty amazing. BALCONY SIZE: Smaller than most, but how much room do you need? We ate breakfast on the balcony each morning and had no problems doing so. WIND A PROBLEM?: Only when standing at rail. The whole week was very windy both at sea and in port. If it's calm may not be an issue at all. SOOT A PROBLEM?: A little bit on the deck so wear shoes when you go out. Cabin Stewards do a great job of keeping it clean. Oddly enough, never had a problem with soot on the table or chairs. Definitely would not deter us from booking aft again. PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: You should not be concerned with privacy on the balcony unless you plan to put on a show. When you are at the rail you are visible and can see others above and below, but when you are sitting you are protected and private. This cabin had a support pole (beam) running up and down as you entered the cabin. It didn't really bother us, it was more of a problem for room service to get trays in and out, but you need to be aware.
lindanick Posted May 17, 2010 #806 Share Posted May 17, 2010 Ship: Solstice cabin # 6124 Deck: Continental Class: 1B? Area: Forward Bed near: Balcony Quiet: Not really, see comments Balcony view: Unobstructed Balcony size: Normal Wind: some (Only because it was windy out) Soot: No Comments: at 4pm they would have rehearsals in the theater. Boom, Boom, and more boom. Not loud, just annoying. You could only hear the bass sound. Was not in the room in the evening so we did not hear the shows
CallieS Posted May 18, 2010 #807 Share Posted May 18, 2010 Solstice Deck - 7 Cabin # - 7127 Starboard or Port Side - Port Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Bath Quiet Cabin – Very quiet Balcony View - Slight obstruction. I think the roof of the balconies below us started at 7127 and went forward. We could see the overhang while sitting on the balcony. If you climbed over the balcony railing, you'd be stepping on a ledge. No big deal, didn't detract from the view, but it was there. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal Was wind a problem? - Only on windy days :p If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? None Any other comments? Not sure how the cabins are with the bed by the balcony, but with the bed by the bathroom/closet, it was a pain to access the left side of the closet. Deck - 7 Cabin # - 7136 Starboard or Port Side - Starboard Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Bath Quiet Cabin – Very quiet Balcony View - No obstruction. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal Was wind a problem? - No If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? None Any other comments? This cabin is identical to 7127 with the exception of the balcony obstruction. 7136 is a little further aft, and isn't affected by the overhang of Deck 6. BENBEA Posted May 19, 2010 #810 Share Posted May 19, 2010 Just came upon this site, love the information on the rooms, found mine for December 5, now I'm a little disappointed that the bed isn't near the both, oh well, it won't spoil our trip!! mercycannon Posted May 19, 2010 #811 Share Posted May 19, 2010 Deck -11 Cabin # -1515 Class –Aqua Starboard or Port Side -Port Bed near? –Bath Quiet Cabin –Quiet except for certain nights after 10 because of pool parties on upper decks-this happened 2 or 3 times-earplugs helped. Balcony View - Every port we docked at(Western Cruise) was docked on our side, so we got a good look at docking manuevers & at the bridge where the officers guided the ship. Balcony Size? Normal Was wind a problem? Not really. Any specific problems with this cabin? Almost impossible to open the cabin door if the balcony door is open also because of the vacuum effect. Any other comments? Right below Aquaspa cafe-easy to run up & get drinks & snacks! Also right down the hall from relaxation room & persian gardens-both of which we used a lot. firstplacechef Posted May 24, 2010 #813 Share Posted May 24, 2010 SHIP: Celebrity Solstice CABIN #: 9296 DECK (#): Panaroma (9) CLASS: CC AREA: Angled Rear Hump just down from the elevators, starboard side. BED NEAR: Balcony QUIET?: Pretty much, with exception of a few door slams from time to time and one night we heard some of the late entertainment in the foyer area, but when we cut the TV off. BALCONY VIEW: Wonderful - looking straight out and aft. BALCONY SIZE: 2nd Largest of hump angle cabins. 2 chairs that recline with foot stools and a table. Asked for and got 2 extra chairs. WIND A PROBLEM?: No SOOT A PROBLEM?: No PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Loved the roomy bathroom and shower. Didn't care for the hard couch, loved the firm bed and having it close to the balcony. We felt there was plenty of storage space for a 7 day cruise and didn't even use all of the drawers and closet space. On the Eastern Caribbean cruises we noticed the port side had the best views when docking in the ports. Great location near the elevators and stairs. Just a few short floors, up or down, to pretty much everything but the casino and theater.

BALCONY VIEW: None BALCONY SIZE: N/A WIND A PROBLEM?: N/A SOOT A PROBLEM?: N/A PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Large inside room with two chairs and not a couch. Dunmore2 Posted May 24, 2010 #815 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Equinox 9303 All comments as per previous posting are accurate, but we did have a lot of soot on the balcony (aft) on one of the sea days. We had been travelling quite slowly through the Dardenelle Straights, and once we picked up speed, all the soot was released. I am glad I was wearing a ship's robe. cavok Posted May 25, 2010 #817 Share Posted May 25, 2010 SHIP: Celebrity Solstice CABIN #: 9270 DECK (#): Panorama (9) CLASS: A1 AREA: Hump/Angle BED NEAR: Bathroom QUIET?: Yes. Except for the door of the adjacent room. Very close to the elevators, yet very quiet. BALCONY VIEW: Awesome. Forward/Side, good view of the bridge wing/forward and the sea on the side. BALCONY SIZE: Larger due to the angle on the hump. WIND A PROBLEM?: Depends on weather, a mellow howl sometimes could be heard with the door open. SOOT A PROBLEM?: No PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Great bathroom. Our only small complaint about the cabin would be that it is not a true double bed but two single beds joined together. And the gap filler / sheet cover isn't strong enough to cover that up... Used the balcony/cabin much less than expected as we were around the ship all the time. However liked the balcony location for great views during docking/port operations. Would definitely book again on Deck 9 and outside/hump.
doktor Posted May 26, 2010 #818 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Ship: Celebrity Solstice Cabin#: 7305-Port Deck(#) 7 Class B2 Area: Aft Bed Near: Bath Quiet: Very Quiet Balcony View: Great Out-Can see forward to the bridge-No view back-No view down Bed: near bath Balcony Size: Large due to cabin location--I would say, it is about 2 ft deeper. Wind Problem: No Sort Problem: No Problems/comments: Closet space limited, no shelves, miss bedside night stands with draws. Nice over bed storage, but at 5'4" tall, had to stand on bed often to reach things. Rooms are narrow and close to wall around bed. Table in front of sofa in definitely in the way. I wish the rooms were about a foot wider. Putting three or four in any of these cabins would be tight. I would definitely book room again, only ajoining room is forwad (7303). We loved the ship! tally10 Posted May 26, 2010 #819 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Deck - 7 Cabin # - 7221 Class –2A Starboard or Port Side -Port Bed near?(balcony or bath) –Bath Quiet Cabin – Very Quiet especially when the sliding doors in the central area are closed as it prevents the music/noise from the Centrum Balcony View - On the hump and can see forward and aft Balcony Size? Normal. Loved the chairs that can convert to a full lounger. Was wind a problem? No If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Any specific problems with this cabin? No Any other comments? There were three of us in this cabin and it was very, very tight. Cabin was smaller than what we are used to. Storage space lacking for three but would be ok for two. Upper bunk was comfortable for our adult daughter but we kept tripping over the ladder. Very nice and new and spotless. Near the elevators so it was a fantastic location. gopherhockey Posted May 28, 2010 #820 Share Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) Celebrity Equinox Deck - 10 Cabin # - 1206 (go figure) Class – concierge class, although I have no idea what value that really gave us. Starboard or Port Side - in the middle really Bed near?(balcony or bath) – balcony Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Quiet Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Was one of the bigger balconies which was nice. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - oversized Was wind a problem? Sometimes wind was, mostly due to the noise it created with the huge flag overhead than actually feeling wind. It was quite calm on at sea days when the rest of the ship was a wind tunnel. If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Absolutely it was... as was the toxic ship exhaust smell and the noise from the flag on the back of the ship (mentioned above). I will post photos of the soot if people want.. every morning black soot on the balcony, and it was not washed off every day. When they did wash balconies they forced us inside our cabin as they soaked our balcony from above. The smell was toxic depending on the winds, usually leaving port was the worst. If you experienced rain it would dampen the soot making it way more noticeable than if it was dry, in which case the dust blew around more. Wipe things down before you sit! Not sure its worth it for the view and aft experience, probably would not book aft on a Solstice class ship again. This was our experience, others may vary. Any specific problems with this cabin? Other than soot, no problems at all. Any other comments? Consider the pros and cons before booking aft on this class of ship. Aft can sometimes give you great port views, but if you can't stand being on your balcony what good is it? I think wind and weather plays a huge part in why some report no soot problems... but it was so bad and obvious I think most are crazy to suggest you won't notice it. My wife was more tolerant because she loves the view but even she couldn't deny the issues as much as she tried to overlook them. Getting anywhere from aft was a chore... we're athletic and even we were annoyed at how far the walk was to get anywhere. They need a rear stairway on the Solstice class. Oh, and wireless signal fades out when you reach the aft balcony... don't close the door or you will lose it entirely. P.S. Despite my negative aft comments, we LOVED our cruise... I know it doesn't sound like it but we did. The overall experience made up for some of the annoyances - it just would have been better in another cabin I think.
