That quote is like fingernails on the blackboard to me! Maybe there's a French idiom that I'm not aware of, but I think that is the worst mis-translation I have ever seen! I never understood that advertising slogan when it was everywhere a few years back. I figured someone slept through French class and years later Madison Ave. paid that same idiot big bucks for that gibberish. My French training was more than fifty years ago but it seems to me that 'bon temps' had masculine gender and meant 'good weather'. Furthermore, the grammatically correct phrase would begin with "Laissez roule les.....whatever good times translates to in French. Just my two cents worth! jealdaka Posted March 19, 2009 #256 Share Posted March 19, 2009 I asked this on another post but maybe you can answer here. When will they release itineraries for Alaska 2010? We wanted to try to get something booked while together in 2 weeks so may have to go with another line but some of the group would really like to look at HAL. MemoryMerchant Posted March 25, 2009 #259 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Hey, Hey, DBA...looks like a lot of folks (me included) are going elsewhere for our "Dutch Experience" inasmuch as we dont speak, read or write french. English is still the the most "spoken, written and read" language on the net. Plus, it appears you've left and headed out already. Oh well...it was swell!!:) Happy Sails!! Itineraries usually release about a year in advance. I would guesstimate Alaska and Europe both in the May-June range. Call reservations though and ask about a Future Cruise Request. They require a VERY minimal deposit ($125.00 for US$ bookings) and you'll be reached approximately 1-2 weeks before it releases to the general public. Hope that helps! darcy24 Posted March 25, 2009 #262 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Any updates as to dining/show times for upcoming cruises? Know there has been discussion of changes (or changing back!). We are cruising beginning of May. Thanks!
sallytoo Posted March 25, 2009 #263 Share Posted March 25, 2009 thanks for your expertise......I was hoping that HAL'S ships will have the ship building contest. My friends and I have enjoyed this group-planning activity and have found on other cruise lines, it was not offered. Will HAL's ships offer this ship building activity? My friends and I have enjoyed this group-planning activity and have found on other cruise lines, it was not offered. Will HAL's ships offer this ship building activity? They will if you approach the CD (or staff), request the contest, and they can find some other interested parties. There's a poster here, Cruisinetta, who builds a very impressive miniature HAL (replica) ship on every cruise she goes on! Awesome looking ships and they float also!:)
pms4104 Posted March 25, 2009 #265 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Dutch ... with the transition to edocs, I understand from HAL's press release that paper docs still will be available should a passenger choose them. Will there be a fee for the paper docs?

kryos Posted March 26, 2009 #268 Share Posted March 26, 2009 I was reading the entry on your blog about HAL's new "Showroom at Sea." It talks about smaller groups performing each night ... but I was wondering, does this mean no more of the large-scale production shows? Are these smaller productions meant to replace or add to them? Just curious. Blue skies ... --rita

That's how I read this at least.

Can anyone (DBA, especially) what is being done to this ship during dry dock? What I am aware of, is: Canaletto being added Casino refresh, rearrangement What I assume will also happen: Volendam had a refresh of its shops with new flooring and lighting, I would assume Amsterdam will get the same treatment And of course: Any projects on a large enough scale they can't be done during a cruise. (Carpeting of some corridors and public rooms, etc)
marle7 Posted March 27, 2009 #272 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Dutch, have you heard whether the Westerdam is still in Code Red? We board this Sunday and I don't know whether boarding will be delayed or not, and I'd rather not hang around at the pier if we can't board! Thanks so much! spcl4cs_gal Posted March 28, 2009 #275 Share Posted March 28, 2009 Just curious about HAL's method of determining where a cruise director might be placed for their next contract. For example, if a CD did the summer in Europe last year would HAL put them in Alaska this coming summer and then possibly flip them back to Europe in 2010. Thanks in advance.
