Tahitian Ink

Recommended Posts

I'm relatively new to Cruise Critic and wanted to give you background of my profile picture.

Tattoos originated in French Polynesia and when in Rome...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tattoo

At the time of my first-ever cruise, which was on RSSC's Paul Gauguin, I knew I wanted to add to my tattoo "collection". Prior to the sailing, I researched tattoo studios in Bora Bora and Moorea. I chose a studio but never made it due to an e-mail miscommunication. I wound up in an off the beaten path (if that exists in Moorea) hut and voila!

I had already decided on a tribal tattoo, so when I discovered the tattooist spoke only French, I pointed to a design in a book he had. Once I approved his freehand drawing on my skin the excitement began! When he finished, I loved the final result and paid him with cash, in USD.

I'll be on the Mariner from Sydney-Auckland in November. The search is on for my next ink. Stay tuned...!
