Just off Explorer today.... JR's also has a cover charge

First off..... Wonderful but somewhat shakey seas the first couple of days. Lots of people were sick. Our sail date was 11/14/04, our Honeymoon cruise. Just off the ship today. I may post a detailed account of the trip but for now I want to ask about Johnny Rockets.

I knew there was a $3.95 charge for the milk shake to include all the fries and chili fries and the rest of the stuff on the menu. We had a free coupon for 2 because of our C & A status. We get into the diner and the service was great. No wait whatsoever. We sat down and in less than 1 min we had yummy onion rings and hot french fries brought to our table and we hadent even ordered them ! (ranch dressing and ketsup to dip).

Tom had a root beer float and I had a strawberry shake. They were both very good.

To process our coupon for 2 the waiter needed our sign and sail card. When he returned we saw that there was a $3.50 cover charge per person plus tax and tip. $7.00 and change (we also left an add'l tip for the waiter because the food was "free so-to-speak).

Anyway, I have been a member on this site for over 4 years (lost all my posts in the upgrade) and I have not seen a post were there was a "cover charge" just to walk into JR's.

Anyone experience this? If not, they ripped me off (KIDDING) and I will demand a free cruise to Hawaii. For 25 of my closest friends.

The $3.95 does not include the beverages. That's probably what you were charged for.

No, there was definatley a cover charge. I asked before I left and again at guest relations. And, there was a sign out front too (saw it later).

No Voyager, you have it mixed up. As I understand it, if you hadn't had the free coupon, your french fries and onion rings would have cost you $3.95 per person. This is the food cover charge. French fries, Onion rings, burgers, etc. for $3.95, all you can eat. The rootbeer floats, milkshakes and other beverages are all charged at the regular cost, whatever that is....apparently $3.50 per beverage. :)

I would love to see your review of the Explorer.... I am booked on this exact sailing same time, next year. :D

When RCI began implementing this new cover charge, there must have been about 100 threads covering it. There was a huge outcry with many threatening to boycott RCI over the whole thing and many others aruing that it was a good idea and would help to reduce lines and wait time, etc. Maybe you were off the board at that time for a while because if you follow the RCI board it would have been impossible to miss it. The whole thing actually got tiring after a while because there were so many repetitive threads all going at the same time.

We were on the same sailing and ate once at JR's. Both of us had coupons for our C&A status. Neither were charged the $3.95 cover charge but did pay for the soda and two milk shakes we ordered. Seems like it was in the neighborhood of $10 to $11 total for the two of us.
