Volcano near Anchorage

Any word on the status of the volcano near Anchorage that is about to erupt? What would happen if it erupts during cruise season? Would the ships likely change itinerary? Would the airlines cancel flights? How else do you get out of there...?:o

It is still a wait and see. The last reports say the glacier has melted big time, due to the heated rock. The ships will still come. If it blows there might be airport closures during the evening hours. If ash comes over Anch. then the airport will be closed. Cruise companies might have to use Fairbanks Airport to get people out.

The volcano rests active and then quiets down for a few days and then picks up again. It is just a waiting game. Here's the link to the AVO Redoubt info. page.

When activity was first reported, it was thought it would erupt "any day now." I felt it wouldn't be any issue during cruise season. Now, I'm not so sure. As stated, it won't interfere with the cruise, but may call for some modifications to flight times or airports.
