Taxis after cruise

Somebody just posted a review of their cruise out of New Orleans and said it was very hard to hail a taxi after the cruise to get to your hotel, as they all want the higher fare to the airport. Any experience with this? Tips on how to handle this?

Never caught a taxi there, but what you suggest is plausible.

 

It's about a 2-3 block walk to convention blvd. I walked over a week or so ago to make it easier for my sister to pick me up and it wasn't so bad - in hot weather would be different. I saw several other cruise passengers doing the same thing and they were picking up cabs.

 

I would first try to get a cab at the port, however.

 

You might try calling the New Orleans Taxi Bureau (504) 565-6272 to see what advice they might have - should a taxi at the port refuse to take you somewhere closer than the airport.
