gordons4 Posted March 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2009 Hi, My husband and I have only been on 2 cruises--both to Alaska, and both on HAL. We are now wanting to go on a Panama Canal full transit cruise. I have been looking at RCI, HAL, Celebrity, and Princess. Please tell me why RCI, or one of the other lines, is best for a Panama Canal cruise. Thanks so much, Sheri

Thanks so much, Sheri I think RCI only does a full transit on its repo cruises...Jewell does a Panama Canal cruise but only goes in half way, turns around and comes back out. That said, I think RCI has prettier ships, friendlier crew, and enough activities (Dance classes, bingo, belly flop, trivia, sexy legs, wine tasting, napkin folding, cooking demo, walk-a-mile, dodge ball, flow rider, ice skating, in-line skating, rock climbing wall, exercise classes, exercise equipment, Quest, production shows, Love and Marriage Show, Battle of the Sexes, etc)for you to decide how active or dead you want to be. BillOh Posted March 1, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2009 I love RCI, never been on another line, but so many people rave about the Radiance class ships and the full transit canal cruise. From what I've read, it would be a good cruise and a good look at RCI.
will work to cruise Posted March 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2009 We've only been on Disney prior to RCI. RCI wins hands down! :D
PMO Posted March 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Personally I do not think RCI is the line for you. If you are a couple that enjoys HAL then RCI would not be a good choice in my opinion. We loved RCI and did not enjoy HAL at all. Since the time I have been on HAL the food and service has really gone downhill and I just feel it will not meet your needs. I think you might like Celebrity more.

I'd be really interested to know more. Are you saying RCI has gone downhill or HAL ? Why Celebrity ?
PMO Posted March 2, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2009 I think RCI has gone downhill not HAL. I have no comment about HAL as I have not been on the line recently. We did not care for the line as it seemed older and much too slow for us. On our ship the casino did not even have anyone in it after 11:00 pm and there was no one at any of the tables until our group arrived. We have not sailed on it since then, and that was at least 10 years ago. We have sailed on Celebrity, RCI and Carnival since then. We have always favored RCI because of the service, fun and food. We had a terrible experience in January on the Grandeur so we are feeling RCI has gone downhill. Celebrity's food and service is wonderful but does not have the fun element but if you are use to Holland I think it would meet your needs better. I wasn't the original poster just interested. I think the fact you have just described RCI as fun has convinced me we have chosen well. I am really looking forward to LOS in June. gordons4 Posted March 2, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks so much for all the comments. I think I am understanding that RCI is much more lively than HAL (which wouldn't be hard to do :D), but that the level of service may not be as good. These are exactly the types of comments I was hoping to get. We very much enjoyed HAL, but that was for a one-week Alaska cruise, where life is supposed to be slower. For a two-week Panama Canal cruise, we may opt for a line with a little more to offer as far as activities go. Thanks again for the responses--and more would be greatly appreciated.
