Dukegirl5577 Posted March 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I've never had a problem. Then again, I would never leave it unattended in a public place. But you should be fine in your cabin.
AdoptAtty Posted March 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I've taken one on several cruises with no issue. There are computers to use in the ... whatever it is called, computer center.

hawaiilvr Posted March 12, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2009 On our last cruise the iBook we brought fit in the safe. On the previous cruise I took a laptop locking cable and wrapped it around the closet rod and just left it on the top shelf of the closet when we were out of the room. Stillfloatin' Posted March 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2009 We've brought our laptop on every cruise and just leave it on the table in our cabin. Have NEVER had any issues with it. We don't even put it away when we're gone for the day.
bakerintn Posted March 12, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 12, 2009 We've brought our laptop on every cruise and just leave it on the table in our cabin. Have NEVER had any issues with it. We don't even put it away when we're gone for the day. You are lucky. My recommendation would be to get a notebook cable and use it whenever you plan to leave your notebook somewhere. Also, set up a real password (In CMOS Setup) for your PC so that if it does go missing, others will have limited access to your data and programs. It is not foolproof, but will keep a large majority of casual thiefs from enjoying their catch.
fin Posted March 12, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Agree that it should be password protected. I have taken mine on at least a half dozen cruises and I leave it in a suitcase locked and shoved under the bed when I leave the cabin for more than a short while. It is because of my laptop that I can find my photos taken on cruises and tell when and where they were taken. That may sound like no big deal, but not everyone who cruises a few times can do that. kdg51 Posted March 12, 2009 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I usually leave my laptop in the closet and have never had a problem. It's nice to be able to download those pictures and we also bring a small Kodak printer. Sometimes we promise to share photos but it never happens once we return home so now we are prepared to load photos onto a CD or hand out pictures before we leave the ship. I also find the internet service to be very slow so I am able to download my messages and type my replies offline from wherever I happen to be relaxing. :D
tiggerfan616 Posted March 13, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 13, 2009 My Dh brings the laptop on all our cruises, he uses it to downlaod pictures from the digital camera. It does fit in the safe and we lock it there when we are out of the cabin or off the ship
tdcjerry Posted March 13, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 13, 2009 We did a zip-line excursion in P.V. and that night we watched a slideshow of it in our villa, all on the laptop, no waiting until you get home to see your pictures.
Cruise_More_Often Posted March 13, 2009 #15 Share Posted March 13, 2009 I never worry about the crew, but have you noticed how many cabin doors are left wide open while they are cleaning? Anyone could walk right into one of those cabins while the crew is cleaning the bathroom and walk out with your stuff. Just keep it out of sight. NoPiratesPlease Posted March 13, 2009 #16 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Oh, it can be a real problem bringing your laptop. I can tell you... Every time I bring it I spend an hour a checking and responding to eMail from work....This is very dangerous, so leave it home.

garycarla Posted March 13, 2009 #18 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Have taken it on every cruise and overseas trips. No problems. Though we have left it out, we normally try to at least "hide" it to reduce chance of theft. AND, when you do that put the power cord and mouse away - duh! freestylecruizer Posted March 13, 2009 #19 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Buy a cable lock and put your worries behind you. A laptop is a must on longer cruises now. I can't get over some of the silly responses.
maggiecatenjay Posted March 14, 2009 #20 Share Posted March 14, 2009 I planned to bring my new (first) laptop with me (Boston to Bermuda) in June but was a bit nervous about it... I feel MUCH better now. Thanks! Is it prudent or over the top to bring a surge protector? Ii NEVER worried this much about my kids LOL. Thanks.
