Ladies ~ going on a cruise ~ do you pack for DH?

Recommended Posts

I pack, I cook, I clean, I do my own laundry.

I lived on my own 11 years "between wives" and am more than self reliant.

There is a joke in my house

When my kids hear of a new recipe they want to have for dinner they ask me to make it.

I even tell them, "I think it would make your mom happy if you asked her once in a while"

They tell me "Dad , when you have an Italian in the house , you don't ask the Irishman to cook"

They do have a point :)

If I did not pack for DH he would definately be missing clothes and dress shoes, and personal grooming items. His clothes would be more wrinkled for sure. At our age I am not about to teach him either, however, he probably should learn in case he is ever on his own.

NO!!!!!!! We've been married 27 years and from day 1 I made a vow never to pack for DH because I did not want to get stuck with the job for the rest of our lives. And, he does a great job. I take 2 weeks, he takes 2 days - I think he is the better packer.

Yes i do the packing for the both of us

I pack for both my husband and I. It doesn't really bother me, because I'm so anal with our vacation lists, and I consider it the start of our vacation and I'm generally in a good mood about it. My husband is responsible for packing the laptop and making sure we have all the appropriate gadgets and cables for charging cameras, cell phones, etc.

What helps a great deal is our oldest daughter, now 19, is very organized and really gets into packing like I do. She packs herself, and her 14 year old sister, and does a great job. I could probably trust her to pack the entire family!

We have worked out a method over the years that seems best for us.

If my husband packed for himself he would pack all he needs plus an additional months' worth of clothing. I've developed a list for him that works well, he chooses his clothing and we hang it all together on a rolling rack.

He goes to work, I usually have more time than him so I do the packing and organizing. I cross pack, making sure I put the shoes that go with the dress in the same suitcase, ditto with his clothing. I have our toiletry bag packed all the time, no panic at the last minute that something was forgotten. I have duplicates of makeup tools, his razor and blades, etc...that we use at home so we have no need for lists or last minute shopping for forgotten items.

He does plenty of chores for me and I don't feel as though I am doing anything extra out of the ordinary for him. What works for one couple doesn't for the next, no big deal.

I should add the disclaimer that I work part time selling luggage and I know what I am doing more than he does :)

well, the laundry he does, as well as the packing, but I have traded the shopping for the cooking:D I buy the food, he prepares it!

We split that one, too........lol! ;)

I do. I don't think DH would have a clue what to take or even where to find it!!

I hear our friends talk about one of them is done packing but the other didn't start.

Just curious, ladies do you pack for your DH?;)

it's pretty even with us. We both gather things together, and both figure out together on how to pack it correctly.

Our biggest problem is that we don't have any place to lay out the suitcases to pack early. We have to wait until the last night and hope like heck that we got it all.

We do make a list, months in advance, trying not to forget anything. :D

I get all the clothes folded and placed in stacks. I then wrap them in plastic laundry bags to keep them from getting wrinkled. I leave them all on the guest bed and when my husband is ready, he packs his bag. Now, I only deal with shorts, slacks, and shirts for him. He does all the rest. If he forgets something, it's not my fault.

Hi Mimi

I do all the packing. If I let Jim pack for himself he would forget alot of thing. Maybe I should let him pack for himself. I bet we wouldn't have as many pieces of luggage and we would all have more room in the limo.

My hubby sounds like your's!! He wouldnt not know what to do or where to find anything! Give you an example: after our rehersal dinner I had my bridesmaids over my apt for a girls sleepover before my wedding, thinking it would be a nice time,... ha!... He wasnt even packed I spent the whole night packing his junk! NIGHT BEFORE OUR WEDDING!!!!!

So to this day I pack his stuff way ahead of time so the day before or a few hours before our trip I can relax knowing I dont have to run around looking for his stuff!:p

I pack mine and he his, he knows what he wants to take better then I do, only problem we ran into one year, I had packed my carryon & he in trying to shift things around to cut back on the weight, took a pair of me Tennies out and put them in his garmet bag, upon arriving in Miami, I couldn't find them, he tell me I forgot them, so after a $ 17 cab ride and $ 13 for new Tennies at Target, we find my missing Tennies in his garmet bag, once we boarded and began unpacking, so now I have 3 pair.

No, my husband is a grown man and I am not his mother. He packs for himself.

Good answer! I don't pack for my husband either. He is an adult, fairly intelligent and quite able to do it himself.

Absolutely. Been married for 27 years and DH has never and will never pack for anything. I so much prefer doing it for him, then I know EXACTLY what he is taking. But then of couse, I have pretty much shopped for him for the last 27 years also. And he prefers it that way. he just doesn't want to be bothered with it. Works for us.

After over 36 years of marriage, I like the way we do things. I plan, I pack, I unpack. He pays. LOL

You got it right. We decide together what ship or which island to spend the week, and from there DH just says tell me where to be and when. I plan, pack, shop, etc, etc. he just doesn't care and I love all that so i do it and he just come with.:D:D Like he says, if he had to pack, he would take a pair or shorts and a couple pair of undies, and a t-shirt, and be done. that is why I DO THE PACKING!!!!

I make up a packing list for both of us - in spreadsheets, where I can identify what needs to be washed or dry cleaned ahead of time - then can check things off as they are packed. I keep a "to do" list of things to do the week prior, and the day of departure in the same document - and also have separate pages with contact phone numbers, etc. that I then put on our frig for whoever is dog sitting for us.

I show him the packing list ahead - so he has input - but I do all the packing. He's been known in the past as forgetting to pack things like belts, shoes, and so on. He also has been known to pack things like a t-shirt with a stain on it! So this is just something I do to make sure we don't have problems on trips!
