Ladies ~ going on a cruise ~ do you pack for DH?

Recommended Posts

DITTO!!!!!!

If you always pack for him how will he ever learn? you only learn when you have an incident that impacts your life. IE on vacation with no dress socks...or something else.

Good answer! I don't pack for my husband either. He is an adult, fairly intelligent and quite able to do it himself.

Just curious, ladies do you pack for your DH?;)

Yup-and don't mind at all.

I'm sure he could pack for himself but he puts way more hours in then I do at work so off I go lining up the suitcases which include him and 2 older teen boys.

Doesn't that require that your Husband wants the dress socks???

No? Why would I? He's an adult, he can pack his own suitcase. If there's something that I think he needs that I don't think he'll remember, I'll remind him.

I wouldn't expect him to pack for me, so why should I pack for him?

I do. I don't think DH would have a clue what to take or even where to find it!!

I hear our friends talk about one of them is done packing but the other didn't start.

Nope. He's a big boy, he can figure it out :D. He travels often enough without me that packing his own stuff is fine. Plus he is fussy, and an overpacker - and for sure I would get nattered at if I didn't pack enough.

We've been on over 40 cruises in our 20 years of marriage along with other land vacations. I told him when we were dating that I didn't cook, clean or do windows and after we were married and we went on our first cruise together, I ammended that to be "and I don't pack for you either". Funny thing is he is a very good packer and my suitcase always ends up weighing twice as much as his! I will go through a verbal list of things I think he might have fogotten to pack and a few times he says, "Whoops, I forgot that."

I packed my husband's suitcase for 32 years...not sure why exactly...he was certainly capable of doing it...but I didn't mind....it made it easy to surprise him with cruises a couple times.. all he knew was we were going on a weekend trip but not where...

I do have a question for the ladies that say their hubbies can not find anything, that is why they do the packing. Well how does he get dressed for work, or if you are going to a black tie affair, do you get his stuff out and ready for him? I am not trying to be a smart aleck here or stir the pot, I am really just curious. You know there are ladies that do "everythng" for their hubbies. If it works for you that is all that counts.

I make up a packing list for both of us - in spreadsheets, where I can identify what needs to be washed or dry cleaned ahead of time - then can check things off as they are packed. I keep a "to do" list of things to do the week prior, and the day of departure in the same document - and also have separate pages with contact phone numbers, etc. that I then put on our frig for whoever is dog sitting for us.

I show him the packing list ahead - so he has input - but I do all the packing. He's been known in the past as forgetting to pack things like belts, shoes, and so on. He also has been known to pack things like a t-shirt with a stain on it! So this is just something I do to make sure we don't have problems on trips!

Like I said earlier, from day 1 of our marriage to now, 27 years later, my husband has always packed for himself. It's too hectic getting out of the house as it is before a cruise to do spread sheets etc. Moonlnite, it's time to let go of the control. It's a 7 day cruise, not a trip around the world:D

kaboochi, I do a simpler form of organizing but organizing just the same, I have a Travel Folder for any of our trips, land or sea, and all information goes into that. The passports go in the final month, and this is so everything is in one location and I am not running about gathering this and that. The cruise documents go in when they arrive. I even check it from time to time to make sure I didn't leave anything out.

I do all the packing also... making sure that things get dry-cleaned and washed and pressed before we leave... DH's job just doesn't allow him the free-time to do such things... I go over what I am packing for him and he vetoes certain things or adds and we discuss whether it's necessary... but he's also color-blind and isn't always confident about putting together outfits....

I do lists and things also...

It works for us... DH literally does nothing until it is time to put the bags in the car and head to the airport... he likes it this way and I prefer to be the organized one who handles all the details... I do the booking and take care of documents everything... it's a sense of security for me and I enjoy the planning... he doesn't and would prefer it the way we do things... for him, it truly is a vacation this way...

For me, making the vacation as stress-free as possible for him is part of my relaxation... once we step on the ship we are both relaxed because of my anal attention to the details... :)

wow - i am perfectly willing to help the kids pack -less and less help as they get older:p but he is a grown man - I remind him of things to take but pack for him? you gotta be kidding:D besides, this way if he forgets something it will never be my fault!

Amen, sister!;)

No, my husband is a grown man and I am not his mother. He packs for himself.

:)

I pack, I cook, I clean, I do my own laundry.

I lived on my own 11 years "between wives" and am more than self reliant.

There is a joke in my house

When my kids hear of a new recipe they want to have for dinner they ask me to make it.

I even tell them, "I think it would make your mom happy if you asked her once in a while"

They tell me "Dad , when you have an Italian in the house , you don't ask the Irishman to cook"

They do have a point

Oh, darn - you're married!:(;)

I should consider myself lucky to have such a self sufficient hubby. Even though I have to complain up until the night before, he still manages to do it himself. He's also in charge of packing all the electronics and gadgets we'll be needing like phone chargers, camcorders, gameboy accessories, laptop, cameras, bateries, extra extension cords, memory cards, you name it.

I'm the one that actually needs to make a list due to my ADD. LOL

I love to make a list, have a file for everything and start months before the cruise doing little things--like start another diet!! Yes!! I do pack for my DH or all he would take would be T-shirts and jeans--maybe a few pairs of underwear. I like to see him in some dress slacks and a nice shirt, so he hasn't a clue what he will be wearing until we get to the ship. We will have our 40th ann. next year---some things just workout when you say "Honey,Ill do that for you"! :D

Oh my gosh, yes. He does his part of the physical packing HOWEVER I'm the one that makes the list, determines just how much of each thing (slacks, shirts etc) for him to put in the suitcase, and I make sure we've done the laundry the day before packing too. If I waited for him to think about it and pack, it would be the hour before we leave for the airport and then panic would set in.

I don't mind and this way we get to cruise with less stress to start with. LOL

Yes and no. I "do" the primary packing, but my DH puts out all his clothes and other things he wants to bring for me to put into the main suitcase and carryon. I let him know how many days to pack for. If he forgets anything, oh well. If I notice something specific, I'll ask him, "Didn't you want to bring your fill-in-the-blank?" and he'll say, "Yes, thanks, I forgot" or "Not this time." We each pack our own personal carryon (backpack or tote) and I pack our one roll on carryon, but my DH is allowed to have any extra room in it.

It's the best method that has worked for us. I used to get so frustrated with doing all the packing, and I'd be so tired by the time we were ready to depart. We decided that sharing the packing chores is the only fair way to do it--for us. I'm really efficient at putting the stuff into the suitcase, so that's why I still do that part.
