5cruisinhappy Posted March 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2009 We are booked on the Equinox next summer which sails out of Barcelona. We were planning on spending 3-4 days precruise in Barcelona. We were there last year, and loved it. We are traveling with 3 kids, and thought it may be a good idea to experience Rome precruise instead...(1 day just doesn't seem enough..) Is this a good idea? We have never been to Rome and don't know how far the airport is and if this will be just too much work.....

You are closer from the Airport to Rome that you are from the USA to Rome. Go for it stay a few days in Rome.
HeinBloed Posted March 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2009 We are booked on the Equinox next summer which sails out of Barcelona. We were planning on spending 3-4 days precruise in Barcelona. We have never been to Rome and don't know how far the airport is and if this will be just too much work..... Well - what do you expect for an answer: 1. You have never been in Rome 2. But you have been already in Barcelona... So the answer is so easy: Rome... It would be always safer to book the last flight of the day out of Rome to Barcelona. You can easily store the bags in the storage at Central Station in Roma Termini. In 31 Minutes the Leonardo-Express takes you from Roma Termini to the airport. As you are travelling within the Schengen-Zone it's smooth like a domestic flight from big town in the US to the other. Being there around 60-75 minutes before departure will be enough. Once you arrived in Barcelona just go to your hotel and rest until your ship's departure. You will also make it if you use instead the early flights to make it right on time to your ship in Barcelona. But I am not a fan to appear last minute and need always a Plan B if my flight is cancelled or late. Have a great time in Rome. I just come back from a Audrey Hepburn exhibition and had the chance to see "Roman Holidays" - one more vote for Rome... Regards, HeinBloed N.B. If you have problems to book a cheap one-way: use the cheapest return-ticket and do not use the return coupon. Think of the Sa/Su-Rule and within a month. So it's the cheapest way to get there if no one way is available. But may some no-thrill airlines... like Clickair or Vueling... (now anyway the same company)
ab0si Posted March 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2009 When checking flights from Rome -> Barcelona, please be aware of luggage fees. Intra-Europe luggage allowances are much less than Americans are used to and the excess baggage fees are much more. So, before you book a flight with Carrier X, check out its website to find out exactly what the total cost will be.
