Want to experience true Alaskan fare. What are good resturants and items that you would consider must trys in the following locations: Fairbanks; Anchorage; Ketechitan; Skagway; Juneau; Sikta:) Really no true Alaska fare (except alot of fresh seafood when it's in season), served in restaurants, otherwise we have all kinds of restaurant types. So what type of food do you like? Actually what would be considered local food - moose, caribou, whale blubber and such can't be sold commercially, so you can't get it in the restaurants. AkSusan Posted March 26, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Can't say whale blubber sounds too appealing:(. Let go for seafood specialties. Most of the restaurants here will usually have seafood on their menu and during season specials too. So here are some of my favorites in the downtown area. Simon & Seafort's http://www.r-u-i.com/sim/, Glacier Brewhouse http://www.glacierbrewhouse.com/, Orso's http://www.orsoalaska.com/, Humpy's http://www.humpys.com/, Snow Goose http://www.alaskabeers.com/ That gives you a good range of things available! countrygal52 Posted March 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2009 DH took me to the Cheena River Pump House near Fairbanks and I had Reindeer Tenderloin, also a little cafe/coffee shop for breakfast (darn, I can't remember the name!:() in Fairbanks and we had Reindeer sausage for breakfast; you know- like breakfast pork links with eggs? Tenderloin was YUMMY, the sausage was a little spicy, but I liked it!!
