We are considering using Princess bus tour for this.

How far does coach bus park to get into Pompeii?

Is the parking area on a hill? In other words do you have to walk up or down a steep hill to get into this area or is it flat?

The bus is most likely to drop you off near the entrance, and park somewhere further away. Once inside, you will have to walk downhill quite a way (I don't remember it as steep, but it took a few minutes) to get into the excavated area of Pompeii. When you leave, you will either have to walk back up the hill, or up a flight of steps.

This is taken from the front gate of the site looking down to where the market area was that the buses were parked. It is not steep, the route was easy to walk and safe under foot, and only about a hundred yards away.

Very picturesque too.
