sun&sea Posted April 5, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2009 It has been several years since I cruised Carnival. I am happy to say I will be on the Imagination next Friday!:) I did a search about cell phone usage on board the ship, but I am not totally clear. Question is, can I use my cell phone prior to sailaway without being charged some roaming charges through the ship? I have no intention of using it while we are away, but would like to speak to DH prior to sailaway. Thanks for your help! Janet
slotaddict Posted April 5, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2009 I have used my cell phone prior to sailaway many times with no problems. Usually the ships get a small distance away from the pier before they turn on the ships celll towers - You should be fine.
jfe724 Posted April 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2009 I have used my cell phone before we sail and at sea. At the port it was the local towers and the ship satelite at sea. Check with your carrier to see what the charges will be. We have Alltel and the charge was like 2.49 a minute. It was well worth it for us to communicate with our son. Wennfred Posted April 5, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2009 Make sure it says what ever carrier you normal use like Verizon etc. If it says something else then turn it off. The ships carrier would say something like MTN or Sea something. Fred
mistergq Posted April 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2009 In theory you should be fine. However if this Bear's fan was not. http://www.wirelessandmobilenews.com/2009/02/wireless_bill_to_watch_bears_game_on_cruise_ship_28000.html
