melodyina Posted April 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2009 What I would like to see is an enhancement with the Princess in-house tv-channel and eliminate some of this paper. Here are my thoughts - Less flyers in my door mailbox that clutter my garbage can. Lets have this information on the TV channel like a rolling 'classifieds ads'. I mean its all the same information repeated week after week, lets save some paper and printing costs! Also allow passangers to post information (approved) such as 'have extra ticket to this tour - wife is sick and cancelled, willing to sell".. I got bit on a few shore excursions we couldn't make, and was unable to return during a few of my prior sailings that I would have loved to resell. If you don't want the information, just don't turn on that channel.:p
JennAngel9 Posted April 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2009 Love the idea of advertising spa specials/drink of the day/etc via TV instead of in the Patter... and I think it's totally reasonable (plus avoids the disappointment of thinking you got "good mail" like an invitation to chef's table or confirmed shore ex, when it's really more "sell mail"). On the other hand, I think having a passenger-exchange marketplace is a more distant dream (consider that this would be much more likely to cut in to Princess/Carnival's bottom line). On this same thread, I would love to have the option to not hear the cruise director hawk activities (loudly) every day-- perhaps a short announcement notifying passengers to turn to a specific channel to hear the details! rdsqrl Posted April 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I seriously doubt anyone is going to sit like a zombie in front of a television screen to wait for it to scroll through millions of ads just to find out what the drink of the day is, when they can glance at the Patter and have that information in five seconds. Let's try not to make this a totally wired world, okay? Not every piece of paper is a harbinger of the death of the entire Amazon rain forest -- printed matter is not inherently evil. Although I do think the idea of a passenger "bulletin board" is good -- maybe something in the ship's library or near the excursion desk. After all, unused shore excursion tickets don't benefit Princess in any way; why wouldn't they want someone to get a chance to re-sell them? Colo Cruiser Posted April 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I would be willing to do anything to reduce coaster material. ;)
JennAngel9 Posted April 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I'm not sure unused shore excursion tickets don't benefit Princess (in some situations). If you cancel after the cutoff, they can resell your ticket to those on the waitlist while refusing to refund your tickets.
Toto2Kansas Posted April 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I would love to see them put the ads delivered to the stateroom on a TV channel, it would be very easy 'not to watch it' lol I get tired of so much junk mail arriving on a daily basis. Cruisin' Chick Posted April 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2009 While these may be nice suggestions for us passengers, I'm not sure if Princess would go for them. There is that all-day "infomercial" channel on the in-cabin tv (where you can hear plugs for shore tours, for the various ship shops, for the casino....). But they still ply your inbox with all those sheets, in addition to the ads in the Patter. And unfortunately, those PA announcements, which are the "ads" that bother me the most, other than the wasted paper (I think I suggested a recycling of those pages on my last comment card). Not sure how it would work with selling shore excursions to someone else. Is someone going to have that much cash on them? Are you going to take a check from someone you don't know? spongerob Posted April 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I hear ya; some days it's like going to the mall and coming out to find your windshield plastered with flyers.

PescadoAmarillo Posted April 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I agree too. It's not just the paper (although that is reason enough), but the TIME it takes to print and deliver all those ads. It's amusing to me that people are always coming to the defense of cabin stewards with regards to making towel animals (i.e. they don't have time, we'd rather they spend their time cleaning, etc), but, if you look at time spent and the fact that each member of the crew has to have a place to sleep, the effort that I would most gladly do away with is the distribution of ads to each cabin's mailbox, and setting out and selling printed photos. The whole photo thing could be done via your cabin TV, and I might actually be willing to spend a couple of minutes each evening looking at our photos for the day on my cabin TV. I will NOT spend cruise time wandering through racks of other people's photos. JMHO, of course.
TonyFred Posted April 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted April 7, 2009 I personally like the Patter and flyers that are delivered each night to your cabin. I love going through them while relaxing and planning the next day's agenda. I would like to see Princess update their tv service to include onboard account info, room service ordering, excursion ordering, etc.

We like getting "tree mail"...gives us something to read while unwinding. But I would like to see some of the passenger services moved to an on-screen menu. robsaw Posted April 7, 2009 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2009 A web-enabled TV would be a more practical approach. Or free wi-fi for access to all on-ship related info.
