Does Pacific Jewel have a nightclub?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone knew if Pacific Jewel has a night club? I looked at the deck plans but couldn't see one. I thought I read on here a while ago that the dome is the gym and spa during the day and then becomes a night club at night. Would this be true? I would imagine there would one. I hope so. I am probably too old for night clubs. But i think I will want to go dancing a few nights on my cruise for sure! :):D

I remember asking that question in one of the threads and I was told that the nightclub is where the casino is and the casino is where the spa was on the dawn. But I dont remember who told me this, or how correct it is, for all I know its completely wrong

I get the impression after reading about the Pacific Jewel in the "Sailaway" Mag we received there is no mention of refubishment for the Jewel only the Pacific Pearl they mention that she is getting refurbished.

"quotes:- Pacific Jewel with its stunning 1,300 square metre oceanview spa and fitness centre, a three-storey atrium foyer and an open air deck with an aerial stage for circus and music performances will be one of the most spacious and modern ships cruising in the Australian & New Zealand waters.

The new superliner offer spassengers the choice of 3 restaurants 8 bars and an array of entertainment venues each evening. There are also fully equipped childrens club, an internet cafe, a casino, 2 swimming pools and 2 whirlpool spas.

While Pacific Jewel is the sister ship to the Pacific Dawn she is configured slightly differently. Of her 832 cabins, 198 feature private balconies and there are 628 outside cabins and 197 inside cabins.

Pacific Jewel also offers a unique circus and trapeze arena on the top deck.

end Quote"

NO mention of refurbishment for the Jewel unlike the the Pacific Peal in which they are stating "after major reburishment"

Taken from the P & o website....

Pacific Jewel will be based in Sydney from 13 December 2009, following an extensive renovation and refit. Meanwhile, Pacific Dawn will commence the first ever year round program of cruises from Brisbane on 19 December 2009.

In the release that P&O had on their site re the change 1 year earlier of the Dawn to the Jewel from Sydney (We were some that are now changed to the Jewel) It said their research had led them to believe that peolple from Sydney prefer a more leisurely cruise than those from Brisbane and then emphasized the Dome as being the spa/gym complete with mud baths etc. Personally, I believe they have purchased the ship this way (as one poster said) and it is too much expense to change. Therefore now leaving from the place with people (that P&O believe) will be willing to pay more. Afterall the dome area was free to enter and use and now this great area is only there for those that can afford to be pampered. (I'm not one of them) I have read somewhere that part of the Casino has a dance floor that is used for the night club. Having trouble vizualizing this as it is too small to fit all the people that used to visit the dome in the night. If this is true, it is also another way to bring the people closer to the money sapping pokies. Not going to allow this to dampen my cruise though. Looking forward to experiencing another ship.

If you have a look in the media section where it introduces the new ships u will see the whole story. I doubt she will arrive with nothing done to her to accommodate her australian customers:rolleyes:

Ok, so just got back from her (Pacific Jewel as OV2) and have spoken to some of the staff..

The Casino currently is one side of a dance floor which doubles as a late night bar. She currently has four Restaurants (Waterfront, Plantations, La Luna and Bistro) however as mentioned on the P&O site it says three restaurants which lines up with what one of the crew said to me.

incidentally he also said most of the current crew were being retained when she moves to P&O Australia, he'd just signed his contract but was told it would be more of a fun club 18-30 orientated type ship??

Anyhow the Bistro on deck 12 foreward is due to be converted into a nightclub venue. She's only having minor mods as they have said otherwise she is in good shape, which to be honest she was..

night club could be in the new bar (club lounge) at the front of deck 11,just above the front viewing deck,as it's on the p&o deck plan and just a blank space on the ov2 deck plan.

i wonder what other changes they in-store in the refit.

She was very good, well presented and a good layout inside. The public lounges are all very modern and clean, nothing much needed here. The only bits that need some work are the cabins. My outside cabin on deck 9 looked something like this:

The suites are a lot bigger..

The nightclub will be in where the Bistro is, the club lounge can only hold about 30 people!

Some niggly bits like entrance to the Marquee lounge is ramp that ends in two small steps so the people with pushchairs/wheelchairs were having some problems!
