Floatplane or Helicopter in Ketchikan

DH wants to do either the floatplane or Helicopter in Ketchikan. He is limited to Ketchikan as we have other excursions planed for the other ports so this is the only place.

Question is ......which is better????

Any suggestions on tour companies????

Thanks

Kim

We feel a float plane to Misty Fjords is the best excursion in Alaska (followed by the Crabfishing deadliest catch type boat also out of Ketchikan).

We recommend either Island Wings or Carllin Air.

Kim,

Just came back from an Alaskan cruise. We did the Misty Fjords with Island Wings. You will not be disappointed if you book with them. We had a great day, and Michelle (owner/Pilot) is fabulous.

We took a float plane ride over the Fjords with Family Air and Captain Dave- this is my second trip with him and I can’t say enough good things about his operation, he is family owned and operated and he has a small plane with all window seats, he really cares about people and the tours that he gives, he is not there for the money he is there because it makes him happy to show off his beautiful city and to make people happy, he takes a longer path to and from the Fjords than other companies do and he lands and lets you get out and walk around on the land for about 15-20 minutes, sometimes he fishes, sometimes he collects rocks for his pathway for his home, I can’t say enough good things about his tour and would recommend it to all. Tell him Vegas Red sent you!!

I also used Island Wings as my floatplane operator in Ketchikan just a little over a week ago. Michelle is a great pilot and has a very clean plane with amazingly scratch-free windows for excellent picture taking. We landed on a little lake and walked around for awhile. It was so peaceful and quiet and, of course, breathtaking scenery abounds. I highly recommend Michelle and Island Wings!

To the OP's question about whether to do a helicopter or floatplane excursion -- if it's Misty Fjords you're wanting to see, I vote for the floatplane. You won't be able to land on a lake in a helicopter. ;)
