cruiseawaits Posted June 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2009 I have been monitoring airfare from NYC area for approximately 2 months. Really want to fly non-stop to SJU since last year's flights (Miami layovers) were nightmares X 100. We will be sailing 2/14/10 during winter break season in the Northeast(in the education field and only time during winter to cruise), and airfare is extremely high(norm-$594 to $760/pp non-stop round trip). Well I refuse to pay that much for the airfare when only using it to get to an embarkation port. Alas, Lady Luck appeared. Just booked Delta roundtrip from JFK to SJU for $284/pp. This price is less than layover in Miami price last year. Now the only problem, I need to book our cruise. Absolutely having the most difficult time deciding between RCCL Adventure of the Seas(sailed last February) or Carnival Victory. I guess maybe a great sale on sail will help me decide. Any recommendations on which ship to sail on 2/14/10??????? Cast your vote. Ship with the highest tally will be my pick.

trixietx Posted June 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2009 I will vote for Adventure of the Seas.
Sabiney Posted June 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2009 I'll vote for the Serenade on 02/13/10 ;):D
Garyorient Posted June 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2009 AS this is the RCCL section of Cruise Critic you are hardly going to get a truly balanced viewpoint. Depends on your age demographic, whether you are with children. Too many variables to give an accurate comparison
debshomespun Posted June 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 7, 2009 Which islands does each ship stop at? That would make a difference too.
TBSCruiser Posted June 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2009 Regardless of what section of the board you are on, but I have been on all three of those ships and Victory can not hold a candle to either of the RCCL ships. Adventure is more inward focused with the promenade inside, the rock wall, in skating rink etc. The Serenade is more outward focused with all the beautiful glass and wonderful views where ever you look. Both have great itineraries so pick the one that appeals most.
amybeth4 Posted June 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 7, 2009 I think we can respond to this question without an official "poll" people. :D OP, give us more info. I don't have itineraries memorized, esp. for Carnival ships. How do the itineraries and prices compare? And how large and how old is the Victory? It sounds like you're going during President's Day Week. There'll be a lot of NYers on both ships and a lot of families. (I've cruised three times during Pres Week.) I've found it to be a pretty lively crowd, so maybe with Carnival it'll be crazy over the top. I'm amazed at the fare you got. I was getting so killed on air this past Pres Week from JFK-MIA that it was more cost-effective to do a Majesty B2B than just fly down for a 4-night cruise. Had I flown down Sun and back on Fri, I was looking at fares of $400-$600. YEESH. For FLORIDA! :p
travelntreats Posted June 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 7, 2009 Great price on airfare......Now as for your logic behind us picking the ship for you based on the highest # of votes :confused: Wouldn't you be better off researching both ships in consideration i.e. ship comparisons, stateroom sizes, food, activities, ports of call, etc.....:confused: Seems like you did the research for the air portion of this and did very well.... but to let some strangers on a cruise board make the decision as to which ship and based on the highest # of votes, seems a little odd ! Good luck in your choice. I can see the logic. There are only a couple of ships to choose from, so why not ask people on these boards, in case they've sailed on both ships? I think it's part of the research, ya know? Good luck in your choice. I agree with you. To ask for opinions of those who have sailed these ships and itineraries is one thing. But to say: Cast your vote. Ship with the highest tally will be my pick. is a little strange to me. On an RCCL board, does Carnival Victory have much of a chance? About as much as an RCCL ship has on Carnival. ;) Now if it were two RCCL ships we were talking about, or two Carnival ships, that would be fair odds. Edit: This has been posted on three boards. I hope what ever ship wins, the OP has a great cruise and is happy with the decision to let others decide their vacation. ;)

I am simply wishing to get people's input with regard to either shiip. I have sailed Carnival 8 times and was on the AOS this past February. I happen to be a research "nut" and have done quite a bit with regard to this upcoming February. I am just see-sawing. I am sure either cruise will be great. Just would like to hear opinions from those who have sailed one or both of the ships and/or itineraries. Again, the Victory is about 1/2 the price with no sea days. AOS has one sea day. Both do southern route with some ports the same. I like the ports on both sailings.

I loved the seranade one it had great ports and food. AOS great ship not as many ports. I personally liked getting off the ship every morning in a different port.
