Kauai helecoptor ride often canceled?

We will be on the POA in Feb. of next year and are greatly looking forward to taking a helecoptor ride while docked in Kauai on the shorter, second day. Does anyone know if these have to be canceled very often? we would hate to miss it, yet the short day would be a better time to take it so we can rent a car and do other things the first day, when we will be there longer and don't have to worry about missing the ship.

They cancel when weather is bad, you really don't want to be flying an outfit that is flying when others choose not to fly due to weather.

When we were there in late summer it appeared weather was better in the morning with clouds and heavy rain gather in the PM, during 1/3 of the days we were there, but its the weather so that is ever changing. The prior day our outfit canceled but heard other outfits choose to fly, not something you like to hear

With a 1/2 day you can still choose to do 1/2 the Island drive. I'd suggest the Waimea Canyon drive if you do get canceld.

Good luck

We are also thinking along the same lines to take the helicopter tour on the shorter 2nd day before we leave ( but we'll be there in Aug.). My question is do you have any idea which outfit they use to do this tour? I'd like to be able to check out their safety record beforehand if possible.

I have a suggestion. Because the POA is on Kauai for two days, you should really book your flight for the first day, just in case of weather. That way, you can be re-booked for the second day if you are rained out on Day 1. Someone's suggestion to book in the morning is also a good idea. Clouds do build up here in the afternoon.

Being an island boy, my suggestion is Island Helicopters. The have a special tour where you actually get to LAND at the falls used in Jurassic Park. They are the only company in the state that gets to do this. They also offer other tours without the landing.

They have a perfect safety record and are the company of choice by filmmakers. Their website is http://www.islandhelicopters.com/ . (no, I'm not associated with them)

Is this the company that the movie tour offers? Sounds like it since they're advertising the landing at the waterfall (and if they are the only company licensed to do this, it must be they!) Thanks
