Rare Roland4 Posted June 11, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2009 What is the most important think to pack for Alaska that most people forget? That people forget?? Sunscreen! Say "Alaska" and people think cold/snow. In reality temps in the high 70's to low 80's are not unheard of at this time of year. It was 80 in Juneau last weekend! Add in the thinning of the ozone layer over the Arctic and the natural reflection off the water and unprotected skin can get a nasty burn pretty quickly! I tell my clients to pack to be able to dress in layers, with the top layer being a wind/water-proof jacket. They will be fine for whatever Mother Nature sends them in Alaska. Travelcat2 Posted June 11, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2009 Strongly agree with the above posts. Also, don't forget mosquito repellant. Some places in Alaska have a real problem with mosquitos!
tourguide97 Posted June 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I would like to ship my suitcase to the Mariner in Seward. Has anyone done this? Also when ship arrives in Vancouver, how is the luggage shipped back home. Being an old gent, I hate the thought of carrying my suitcase through the airports, etc. Thanks in advance for your help. verdl Posted June 12, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I'm checking with LuggageFree that works with Regent, so I've been told. I'm going to do the same thing. Seward to Vancouver. They supposedly handle the shipping both ways.....home to Seward and back again.
