osiebosie Posted June 11, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2009 I just printed out my FunPass! Yay! DH and I noticed it says VIP (obviously, it's big!) in the upper right hand corner. Does this really mean we get VIP privileges or is it on all funpasses? Thanks, Shay

VIP is only printed on Suite and Platinum Fun Pass and luggage tags. If in a Suite, the VIP is only for embarkation.
osiebosie Posted June 11, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted June 11, 2009 Well, we're not in a suite, just a plain old balcony, and I really have lost count of Carnival cruises we've taken over the years, but, yes, I would say at least ten. Cool. Shay

osiebosie Posted June 11, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted June 11, 2009 So instead of VIP, it should say BSNOB? :) Shay I have to say, on our last cruise we celebrated our 30th anniversary and got a fabulous deal on a suite (the smallest one) on Celebrity for a 14 day cruise. Best cruise ever! Anyway, we got invited to lots of stuff and hobnobbed with the other suite-ers and, boy, oh boy, did we ever feel out of our comfort zone! We love being with our plain old balcony snobs and our inside cabin snobs! Shay

Cool. Shay go to the Carnival web site, look under the selection for select a cruise and click on past guest. The benefits of Platinum are listed. I'm sure each of these will excite you. I have posted (hopefully) the link below. http://www.carnival.com/cms/Static_Templates/carnival-past-guest-recognition.aspx#pm

flounder315 Posted June 11, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2009 depends on how many friends and how crowded it is at the time you get there. each port handles the situations differently, but try, all they can do is tell you no. :p
familyof4cruising Posted June 11, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2009 Cool Cool Cool!! We have friends who are cruising with us. Can they ride along on some of the benefits such as embarkation? I will say that Carnival is the tightest with following the embarkation rule. My family was traveling with my parents and they would NOT let my parents come into the VIP Lounge. They boarded the ship at a completely different time than us - and that was only 2 extra people. That was at the Port of Miami. We are sailing from NYC in August and lets see what happens there. He said that it was because I was looking at the balcony prices. My reply was "I don't do windows. Only balconies"!!!

That was at the Port of Miami. We are sailing from NYC in August and lets see what happens there. I'm sorry that this upset you. But if Carnival or any other cruise line allows everyone who is traveling together with a VIP guest to checkin and board together, it diminishes the perk for those of us that have earned it. There are so many people in the VIP lounge that don't belong there, and there are fewer staff to process VIP's (usually only 2 as compared to 8 or 10 in general boarding), then they have to interrupt the process by going out to the general boarding area to get the S&S cards for all the people who tagged along with the VIPers. This is a process, like any other rule that Carnival and I suspect other lines needs to start enforcing.
Carnival Platinum Cruiser Posted June 11, 2009 #14 Share Posted June 11, 2009 Cool Cool Cool!! We have friends who are cruising with us. Can they ride along on some of the benefits such as embarkation? If you are both eligible for VIP benefits have your TA or carnival book one of you to your friends cabin and have one of the friends change to your cabin in other words have one VIP in each room then you can all embark using VIP status. Just switch the cabin keys once you board and go back to your original cabin. We did that with my parents on a Fasination (Jacksonville) cruise and had no problems whatsoever they did not charge any extra $$ either.

While I can understand doing this with and for parents, why would we suggest to people that they do this with friends? Eventually, if this happens on all cruises, just as okgirl mentioned, the perk is diminished for those of us that are Platinum. Do as we did, sail enough with Carnival to earn the perk.
