DW, DD and I are going to come into Orlando a day before the Wounder leaves for 7 nights to the Eastern Carib. I thought it would be fun to go to one of the Disney waterparks to rev up for the Cruise. Which one would be better suited for a 5 year old girl. She may at best be 39 inches at the time.

Both of WDW's water parks have a special area for smaller kids toplay. I like Blizzard beach best for my grandkids. The only reason i like it better is the main pool is just that, a large pool that gradually gets deeper and you can easily take a 5 year old there.

Typhoon Lagoon's main pool are is a wave pool. Every few minutes a whistle blows and it sends out several large waves that can knock you off your feet if you dont watch out and listen for the whistle.

Oc course the outer edge is just a few inches deep and nothing happens there but at age 5 they want more than ankle deep water.

Typhoon Lagoon does have a nice play area for kids too.

both places have the creek running around the park and you can float it in inner tubes. This is fun with a 5 year old. You can hang onto the side of their tube if you want to keep them close but for the most part it is a slow steady flow and takes 30 minutes to do the loop. several places to enter and exit along the way.

Dont go to the parks in Orlando that arnt with a theme park. They have little for kids, mostly tall slides and they are packed out really fast.

I know WDW can fill up too but when it gets busy you can always get in the creek and float or the pool always has room for more people. Just the slides get packed.

Be warned if a thunder storm rolls in you will be escorted out of the park for yor safety. This does happen all through the summer. I know if you arnt there long you can get a free ticket for another day if you ask about it.

Lightning hits the ground there all the time.

I live in Florida and it can be really bad so this is for your safety.

We did this back in 06 and we plan to do this in Oct prior to our Magic cruise. We did BB but this time are going to do Typhoon Lagoon. Last time we also did the Haloween Party that night but this time it is the night before. We like Shutters at CBR and might eat diner there?

Done them both. Personally, I like Blizzard Beach better than Typhoon Lagoon. Last year we went to Typhoon Lagoon with my 15yr old and my 3yr old and wished we had gone to Blizzard Beach. Typhoon Lagoon's Lazy River was dirty.

We love both parks and I really don't think you can go wrong with either but we prefer the tropical theme of Typhoon Lagoon better than the ski resort theme of Blizzard Beach. Maybe that's just because we usually go in the winter to escape the snow here though! One thing that Typhoon Lagoon has that Blizzard Beach doesn't is the snorkeling tank which is pretty cool but it depends on how comfortable your 5 year old is in the water. My son went in when he was 6 but he had used a mask and snorkel before and was comfortable with it.

For a 5 year old, I think Typhoon Lagoon is better. Both are great, but Blizzard Beach has rides suited more for older kids. Typhoon Lagoon has a lot more shady spots too if sun exposure is a concern. Either one would not disappoint! :D
