CruiseitorLoseitt Posted June 15, 2009 #1 Posted June 15, 2009 i'm a total idiot. i cant believe it, but i leave saturday (or the boat does, at least) for my first cruise out of nyc. i woke up this morning and couldn't find my wallet. been looking for several hours, called a few places, no luck yet. to prepare for the worst, i wanted to know if there's any plausible way to get on the boat sans driver license. i have a passport, i have a birth certificate, but thats pretty much it. credit card, driver license, work/old college photo id, all gone. i could get another work id (maybe) in time, but not sure if that matters. what are the specific requirements for identification? i'll be going to canada. please let me know any information that could help.
CruiseitorLoseitt Posted June 15, 2009 Author #2 Posted June 15, 2009 not funny at all to me right now, but i did note the irony of my cruisecritic name in this situation...lol lets hope i cruise it, not lose it
FantasyLineAddict Posted June 15, 2009 #3 Posted June 15, 2009 You'll be fine with your passport - hope you find your wallet!
Cobra1365 Posted June 15, 2009 #4 Posted June 15, 2009 I think your passport is all you'll need besides a credit card...can you have the company overnight replacement cards to you? Good luck!
travelntreats Posted June 15, 2009 #5 Posted June 15, 2009 If you have your passport... there is your photo ID and when embarking the ship in ports of call all you will need to do is carry that and your S & S card for re entry to the ship. You will be fine w/out your DL and no need for the BC since you have a passport that has your pic on it. Have a Grrrrrreat Cruise !
JenSDCA Posted June 15, 2009 #6 Posted June 15, 2009 Your passport is sufficient for identification. I'd be more concerned about having no credit card - you'll have to plunk down a cash deposit to cover your gratuities and onboard expenditures, unless you have a replacement card overnighted to you. Wow - three answers posted while I was typing. Hopefully now you feel thoroughly reassured!
RjayB Posted June 15, 2009 #7 Posted June 15, 2009 The good news is your Passport will cover all your ID needs. Assuming you have to cancel all your credit cards, you can still use cash to put down on your S&S account...just be sure to bring enough to cover everything you will want. Hope you get your wallet back, but even if you don't you can still cruise :)
joepeka Posted June 15, 2009 #8 Posted June 15, 2009 Your passport is all the ID you will need to board. If you used a credit card for your pre-registration, that card can be substituted for cash at check-in, if that's how you want to handle your onboard account. However, I would think your card provider(s) can replace the cards quickly if you report them lost - perhaps replace them soon enough to be used for your S&S account.
poobears Posted June 15, 2009 #9 Posted June 15, 2009 Passports are your all in one entry, no need for a BC or DL with it. That's one of their advantages.
kyrisong1 Posted June 15, 2009 #10 Posted June 15, 2009 I've never used my DL at all to show ID on a cruise, only passport. That said I hope you find your wallet, what a disaster!!!! Have a good cruise, Carole

FantasyLineAddict Posted June 15, 2009 #12 Posted June 15, 2009 thanks so much everyone, ive been losing my mind this morning/afternoon trying to find some information to confirm that. i emailed carnival to make certain, but this is very reassuring. also, ill be fine with the money as my girlfriend has generously offered to put the bill on her card, phewwwwwww Be sure to update your Fun Pass with her number before you go, it will make check in easier. Check under the dresser and bed in your bedroom, my husband's wallet has a life of it's own sometimes and we once found it wedged between the mattress and the bed frame.
CruiseitorLoseitt Posted June 15, 2009 Author #13 Posted June 15, 2009 for those following this story closely, i'm thrilled to report that operation wallet retrieval has been a success!!! recently found in zippered pair of gym shorts, post wash. currently laying out business cards and notes to dry, listening to celebratory music, and getting pumped for stress free cruising!! thanks again for the help
megr1125 Posted June 15, 2009 #14 Posted June 15, 2009 LAUNDRY 101! Check your pockets BEFORE placing wash into washing machine!!:D:rolleyes: have a great time! (btw the bank WILL overnight you CCs if you call and tell them you, uh, washed it and need it for a trip! you might have to ask for a supervisor, but they'll do it!----you may have screwed up the magnetic strip in the wash!) gives new meaning to the term laundered money!:p sorry, couldn't resist!
PlanoDebbie Posted June 15, 2009 #15 Posted June 15, 2009 I sure hope you find your wallet! Having had my wallet stolen about six months ago, I can certainly feel your pain. Definitely call your credit card companies and ask them to close your account and send a new card to you over-night so that you'll have it in time for your cruise. Another suggestion for everyone else out there. Before you leave on your cruise, take out all non-essential cards from your wallet and leave at home. Library cards, Store credit cards, Membership cards, etc. Take only your drivers license, medical cards and credit cards that you'll be using. Make an enlarged copy of FRONT and BACK of each card you are taking with you. That way you'll have the account number AND the phone numbers to contact if you have a problem. Make two sets. Leave one set at home with spouse or other trusted person in case of emergency. Take the other set with you and leave in your safe on the ship. My husband was in Italy when my purse was stolen. I always forget to copy my credit cards for trips, but told him to do so just in case HE had a problem. Thank goodness I did. I have also programmed both the toll free and Out of country phone numbers into my cell phone for all credit cards. Having been through the nightmare of canceling all of my credit cards before, hopefully this information will help someone else out. Also notify your credit card companies when you will be out of the country and which countries you'll be visiting so that they don't suspend your account while you're away for any reason.
rjm1cc Posted June 15, 2009 #16 Posted June 15, 2009 Your credit card company may fed ex a replacement card so ask when you cancel. There might be a charge so ask.
TexasRed Posted June 15, 2009 #17 Posted June 15, 2009 Yay!!! So glad you found your wallet! Have a great cruise!
Rare Essiesmom Posted June 15, 2009 #18 Posted June 15, 2009 The water may have messed up the signature on the back of the card, sometimes it says VOID, to prevent someone trying to wash off your sig. and sign it themselves...You might want to 'test' it in an ATM to see if it still works...EM
Traveler353 Posted June 15, 2009 #19 Posted June 15, 2009 Excellant, by the way that girlfriend sounds like a keeper.
jsglow Posted June 15, 2009 #20 Posted June 15, 2009 Great news! Buy some gas or something with each of the credit cards. Test that Mag strip before you leave on the cruise. Take the next step if malfunctioning. Then I think it might be time for a celebratory "cold one".
RjayB Posted June 15, 2009 #21 Posted June 15, 2009 So now the big question....are you going to tell your GF you found your wallet?:D
zqvol Posted June 15, 2009 #22 Posted June 15, 2009 i'm a total idiot. i cant believe it, but i leave saturday (or the boat does, at least) for my first cruise out of nyc. i woke up this morning and couldn't find my wallet. been looking for several hours, called a few places, no luck yet. to prepare for the worst, i wanted to know if there's any plausible way to get on the boat sans driver license. i have a passport, i have a birth certificate, but thats pretty much it. credit card, driver license, work/old college photo id, all gone. i could get another work id (maybe) in time, but not sure if that matters. what are the specific requirements for identification? i'll be going to canada. please let me know any information that could help. Stop the panic . . .if you have a passport and a Credit card you are good to go. No other ID needed. Call your CC company, tell them it is lost and have them overnight you a new one. Have fun!
zqvol Posted June 15, 2009 #23 Posted June 15, 2009 Be sure to update your Fun Pass with her number before you go, it will make check in easier. Check under the dresser and bed in your bedroom, my husband's wallet has a life of it's own sometimes and we once found it wedged between the mattress and the bed frame. Really? Every time I check in I just hand them a card to use, they swipe it and we are off. Never use the same one to complete the fun pass, and we are not slower than anyone else. They really don't pay attention to the one on the fun pass, not sure why they use it anyway.
cuyahoga11 Posted June 15, 2009 #24 Posted June 15, 2009 Stop the panic . . .if you have a passport and a Credit card you are good to go. No other ID needed. Call your CC company, tell them it is lost and have them overnight you a new one. Have fun! He found the wallet 2 hours ago
CRUIZIN SUZAN Posted June 18, 2009 #25 Posted June 18, 2009 not funny at all to me right now, but i did note the irony of my cruisecritic name in this situation...lol lets hope i cruise it, not lose it I think it is also ironic that you are a financial advisor. I have some financial advise for you- do not launder your wallet. Glad it will all work out. We sail with you- I'll be looking for the relieved guy and his bucket of Bud on deck! Meet the CC gang at sail away- 4pm, pizza joint.
