Skagway - activities for teen boys

Hi everyone,

Do you have a recommendation for our activities or excursion(s) in Skagway for a group of families with mostly teen boys? We're an active and outdoorsy crowd who like to hike, bike etc.

There are many good options in Skagway and I'm hoping I can get some advice from those who have been there with teens or who can imagine what teens would enjoy!

Hi Lynne. You didn't say what your budget was or if you specifically wanted to stay in Skagway. If you rent a van and drive up to the Yukon (Using Murrary's milemarker guide), you can get in contact with Spirit Lake Lodge and maybe the boys would like a horseback ride and some canoeing on the lake. Or maybe talk to the owners at Spirit Lake Lodge and talk to them about some fishing. http://www.exploreyukon.com/daytrips.html

I have two active teens. We're doing the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari - between the high speed catamaran, short hike and canoeing I think everyone will be happy. How many places can you paddle up to a glacier? The reviews have been good and the pictures are amazing.

Thanks for the super input so far! Anyone else out there? Has anyone tried the Rock Climbing and Rappelling excursions? How about guided hikes with Packer Expeditions?

Lynne

The rock climbing was a BIG hit with my kids (boys then age 9 and 15 and daughter age 18, all very active), as well as me (dad). The kids rated this right up there with the glacier helicopter landing and superior to Misty Fjords flightseeing.

Glad to hear this! My brother and I (20 and 25) are booked for this excursion, and we are both REALLY looking forward to it. In doing my research it was as highly recommended and reviewed as some of the flight seeing tours out of juneau and ketchikan!
