jules815 Posted June 19, 2009 #1 Posted June 19, 2009 A friend of mine is sailing next week on a Princess, British Isles cruise, sailing from (I think) South Hampton. She received an email from Princess earlier this week with a check list of things they need. Passport and birth certificate? Also up to date immunization records? Is this the norm for UK and European cruises? Should I be putting this information for our Mexican Riv cruise next month? I haven't heard anything from RC regarding immunization records and we only travel with our passports; never brought birth certificates.
MavisMarie Posted June 19, 2009 #2 Posted June 19, 2009 We've been on 10 or more European cruises and we have *never* had to show a birth certificate, nor have we ever been asked for an immunization record. Additionally, we've traveled extensively on land vacations in Europe and only used our passports, even when in Russia. A passport is the only thing needed for adults traveling in Europe. I imagine your friend received a very generic sort of email with reminders that would include all situations for traveling the world.
amybeth4 Posted June 19, 2009 #3 Posted June 19, 2009 I agree with Mavis 100%. It sounds like a generic letter. Tell your friend to slowly reread the letter. You DEFINITELY don't need immunizations for a British Isles cruise and you DEFINITELY don't need a passport AND birth certificate. JUST the passport. Bringing a birth certificate is redundant since you can't get the passport without HAVING the certificate. cRaZy letter!
hazeleyez3 Posted June 19, 2009 #4 Posted June 19, 2009 You should be ok with just a passport. As for the immunizations...I believe cruises only require them when going to places such as South America or Africa.
amybeth4 Posted June 19, 2009 #5 Posted June 19, 2009 You shoul be ok with just a passport. As for the immunizations...it depends on where the cruise is going. I know some Med cruises stop in Africa, which I believe requires the immunizations before boarding. (I think they're pretty safe since they're sailing out of England...) :)

Not a "close" friend, so I don't want to come off as a cruise "know it all" because with only 3 cruises under my belt, I'm not. She's already been to her doctor (had trouble getting immunization records because her other doctor left the practice) and had bloodwork drawn to confirm immunizations. (never heard of that), and she might have to re-do the polio vaccine. She leaves on Wednesday.

I certainly don't want to sound like a know it all either...I did work for a tour operator and we sold cruises to the British Isles so I can tell you 100% that your friend's info isn't accurate. I've been lucky enough to have been to many countries in Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Asia and Australia. And the ONLY place I've EVER needed shots (and only Hepititis) was China. And I've never carried my birth certificate. Anyway I hope it all works out with your friend. :)
