Taking Soda/Water bottles on board

Recommended Posts

OK, a poster suggested I moved this over here since I am taking a RCI cruise, (Granduer on Sat!!)

So DH and I don't want to purchase the soda package, but I have heard you can bring your own bottle on board.

We are driving to the ship and want to bring some with us- can anyone explain to me how to do this?

Also, can we take it from our room once on the ship- obviously not to dinner or anything, but if we were going to walk around can we carry our own bottle of water?

Thanks so much!

Yes, Royal allows people to bring soda and/or water on board. You can simply put it in a duffle bag or rolling suitcase or what not and put a luggage tag on it - it will be delivered to your stateroom with your other luggage. You also can walk around the ship with your own bottled water.

The ship's tap water is high quality, so you won't need much bottled water. The ship's own water is as good or better quality than most bottled waters. The only issue with it is that it does not come out of the tap real cold, so you just need to add some ice to it.

Have a nice cruise. :)

Just off the Explorer, and we took 2 cases (12-packs) of soda onboard with us. Actually what we did was put luggage stickers directly on the case, and handed them to the porters with our other checked luggage. They made it to our room just fine with the rest of our bags.

If you buy soda onboard without a drink plan, you get a can anyway, so nobody would know if you were walking around with your own (short of taking it into the dining room, of course).

And yes, you can bring your own bottled water as well, although the ship's water IS very safe for drinking.

I brought a 20-pk of diet DP on my cruise that was tagged and left with the porters. Unfortunately, one of the cans did not survive the "loving care" the pack was given en route from the dock to my cabin. I don't know where the damage was done (on the dock or once onboard) but it was definitely after it was checked since the box was soaked. It appeared that something sharp tore part of the box and punctured a can. I only hope the liquid didn't damage someone else's bags. The pack was delivered at a different time than my suitcase, and my suitcase showed no sign of liquid spray.

I'm only posting this as an FYI. Next time I bring sodas, I'll either put them in another suitcase before checking them or wrap a layer of duct tape around the pack, or else carry it on myself. I felt really bad that my soda may have ruined someone's clothes, but I had no way of finding out for sure. I probably owe someone for their laundry bill.

I'd previously put a couple cans/bottles of soda in my carry-on and the rest in my checked bags. Those always arrived just fine. However, so many people here posted that they just "put a luggage tag on it and checked it" that I thought I would give it a try. I won't do that again!

We usually bring a few bottles of water. We keep the bottle and refill it as needed.
