JudeeJim Posted June 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2009 I love escargot and need to know if I can request it for several nights besides the one night it is on the menu? Is this something I should discuss with our waiter? Judee

If they can do it, you will get it. Just ask your head waiter.
Poohb Posted June 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2009 A few years ago we sat with a lovely gentleman who enjoyed his snails. He made a request and received 2-3 'dishes' of escargot every night. He was a very happy camper.
Dardreamer Posted June 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2009 Yes - we were a table of 6 and the waiter made sure we had them every night - I personally were tired of them after 2 or 3 days but everyone else was thrilled!!

Is this something I should discuss with our waiter? Judee A lot of people love escargot. On one cruise our table mate ordered escargot for the whole table and we all got it the next night. DH did not eat his, but someone else loved it. I can take it or leave it. Jan

fl-raybee Posted June 27, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 27, 2009 I also enjoy those little morsels---RCCL--lots of butter and garlic in a special dish, with a roll to soak it all up. As a really good variation--Costa puts a small amount of mashed potatoes on the rim of the dish. Ray
JudeeJim Posted June 27, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted June 27, 2009 Great. I will order escargot several times on the cruise. I even hope my daughter will try them. When she was growing up the house rule was you must try at least one bite. Worked pretty well as my kids will eat just about everything but liver and other innards. Trainman-2 Posted June 27, 2009 #11 Share Posted June 27, 2009 Our son cruised with us for 5 years in a row before he joined the US Marines and left the nest. On his first cruise he was 14 and asked me what Escargot was the first night it was offered on the menu. I think he tried them because he thought eating snails would be cool. No matter, he loved them and asked for more. The waiters accommodated him and he got them every night every time he cruised with us, often 5 or 6 orders of them.

cruisindoggie Posted June 27, 2009 #13 Share Posted June 27, 2009 I would rather have escargot than shrimp coctail. Bring on the garden snail.
angie54751 Posted June 28, 2009 #14 Share Posted June 28, 2009 On our second cruise..it was me, my dh, and our two oldest children who were around 10 at the time....I happened to mention that I had never tried escargot to the waiter. He promptly ordered it for me. When it arrived he placed it in front of me then clapped his hands loudly, said "Everyone! May I have your attention please. Miss Angela, here, is going to try escargot for the first time", he then scooped up a spoonful and fed it to me. However, I'm so glad he did because I have loved ever since! BroncosFan2010 Posted June 28, 2009 #15 Share Posted June 28, 2009 The escargot on RCCL is fabulous, although, anything drenched in butter and garlic has to be amazing. I am glad to hear that I will be able to order it more than one night (or two, seeing as my next cruise is a B2B!!!)!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D
Hobiecat01 Posted June 28, 2009 #16 Share Posted June 28, 2009 On the Freedom we sat at a table with 8. I ordered escargot and no one else at the table had ever tried them. As we proceeded to "pass the escargot" around the table, our waiter watched intently. Those of us who enjoyed them instantly got several orders and we munched snails all night! THIS is a mark of a great wait staff that has your enjoyment in mind! This level of service lasted all week and we all talked about the great tips we left with the waiters and his assistant. For all of the bad stories we hear out here, there are hundreds of good one's that never get written up. Let's talk about the good stories!!! ------------------- Sea ya! camofwilliamsburg Posted June 28, 2009 #18 Share Posted June 28, 2009 Funny story with this dish. OUr kids who sailed with us for yrs when they were in elementary and middle school ages loved escargot too. We found out we can get them more than once. We told the waiter of this love of theirs and then each night out came 2 portions for each of them. By day 4 they could not stand them anymore and they had to hide the snails in the rolls so that they did not insult the waiter. WE finally said no more pls..... To this day, they HATE the dish. Been on 3 other cruises after that and when they see it on the menu they tell us NO!
