Hi,

I know it might sounds a little rush. My friends and I are planning a cruise trip to Alaska late Jul or Aug (one of them is leaving US soon, so we want to do it this year). I read a number of reviews and got even more confused before i read them. Can you please recommend a line? We really appreciate your help. I read a lot about NLC. I wonder how good it is compared to pricess, celebrity or hal.

We are:

Age 25-30, males and females

Starting from Seattle or Vancouver, looking for a 7 day trip

enjoy traveling and sightseeing (the most important: we want to see glacier and wild life)

We also want to have good food and more entertainment (we are quiet people, so we are not very interested in party or casino, and sightseeing is definitely more important for us).

We are looking for a comfortable yet low price room ( most likely a inside room)

Please recommend a line you've traveled or just the stops you enjoyed. Thank you very much.

Well, if you come on the NCL board, you're going to get a flood of folks who like NCL who will tell you that NCL is the best! If you want a more varied view, you should go on something like "Ask a Cruise Question" board.

Given that you need to book pretty quickly if you're going on this cruise this year, I'd probably just look at price, get the best price I was willing to pay, and go. Alaska is awesome regardless of how you get there, and there really isn't a whole lot of difference between the cruise lines if you're going for the sightseeing and not specifically ship amenities or activities.

I agree with Uppity and would even recommend looking at a few different cruiseline options, getting a price for a few, narrow it down and then try to get some recommendations from there.

For us, we loved our round trip out of Seattle on the Star so much last year, that when we booked our Alaskan cruise next year, we choose the Star again. On the Pearl you do get some glaciers included in the cruise, but not very up close, as I understand it. On the Star, you can take an excursion (which we took) and it got us right up to the glacier within maybe 100 yards or so. It was AMAZING. All of Alaska was amazing to us. No matter which line you choose to cruise on, to me, Alaska is the star of the show, not the cruiseline. You will find most of the major cruiselines are more alike than different and each has its own set of fans. For Alaska, just being there is what it is all about to me.

And, for sure, visit the ALASKA boards under ports of call for lots of opinions. though I love the NCL eat anywhere, eat anytime concept, I think you would not go wrong on any of the cruiselines.
