texaridian Posted July 9, 2009 #1 Posted July 9, 2009 Can anyone please explain the difference between the "sheltered" balconies and the "glass fronted" balconies on the QM2? Do you still feel like you're outside on these balconies? Also, the Premium balcony rooms are 269 square feet as compared to the Deluxe cabins which are 248 sf. Why then are the Deluxe balcony cabins more expensive? Thanks! Carol
ocngypz Posted July 9, 2009 #2 Posted July 9, 2009 Sheltered: from the "rail" of the balcony down to the deck.. it is sheet metal. The others have plexiglass from the rail down. The sheltered sq ft is more.. because the balconies are larger. Rooms themselves are the same size. The higher deck you are on...........more money......

texaridian Posted July 9, 2009 Author #4 Posted July 9, 2009 Thanks for the answers. The pictures were especially helpful! Now if I can just get the "good" balcony.
capnpugwash Posted July 9, 2009 #5 Posted July 9, 2009 Thanks for the answers. The pictures were especially helpful! Now if I can just get the "good" balcony. You should bear in mind that the glass fronted balcony is almost unuseable on a transatlantic crossing due to wind speed and speed of ship. The in hull do allow you to sit in the fresh air and feel comfortable albeit you cannot see the sea unless you stand up, trust me it is there. I would never want a glass fronted balcony except perhaps on a cruise, but I would not choose the QM2 for a cruise either. Hope this assists you.
Betsy's Mom Posted July 9, 2009 #6 Posted July 9, 2009 We have sailed with both types of balcony. Even on a short cruise the full plexiglass type balcony ( on deck 11) was too wet and windy to be of use. Now we will always opt for the sheltered balcony. Just us I guess! B.
Alberich Posted July 9, 2009 #7 Posted July 9, 2009 Whereas I like the plexiglass balconies, and have done a transatlantic on both decks 11 and 12. But the I have never been a sun worshipper.
