RCCL Cutting Saturday Departures

Recommended Posts

It seems like RCCL is almost eliminating Saturday departures for 7 night cruises. Most of the ships now depart and return on Sundays.

The problem is that Saturday departures are much more convenient for us. In addition, Saturday flights are much easier to book since they are the lightest travel day.

Does anyone know why RCCL is making this move?

I don't know but its funny because I was having this conversation with my bf as the flip side. For us its easier for the ship to leave on a Sunday because we need to fly down a day earlier (we only like cruising when its winter where we live) in case of snow or a Nor'easter. It's easier for both of us to ask for a vacation starting on a Saturday (for a sun. departure) then asking off on a Friday (for a saturday departure). I do wonder why they are doing that, though.....

Im all for sunday departures. Living on the west coast you need to fly in a day early. But flying back on sunday still puts home in time for work monday. Guess its good for some and not good for others. Larry

My cruise on the Liberty leaves Miami on a Sunday.:)

Very interesting...

There is an 8 day cruise in October, which moves all the departure dates to Sunday.. I learned something new.

My completely uneducated guess would be higher demand for Sunday departures than Saturday departures.

The Oasis will start sailing from Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday. Those who want Sunday, will have the Liberty out of Miami. Other than the 3 and 4 nighters, and the occasional 10 night cruises, that is all that will be available from the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area on RCL. As a result, two of our next four cruises will be on Princess and the other two on HAL. With the amazingly high prices on Oasis, especially on weeks like Thanksgiving, they have priced themselves out of our market.

Serenade does Saturday's out of San Juan while the Adventure does Sundays....however once Adventure leaves for Europe, Serenade will be doing an 8 day shifting it from Saturdays to Sundays.

I'm guessing RCI has some research that indicates there is more demand for Sunday departures.

I'd rather have Saturday than Sunday so I can have a day to relax and catch up on laundry when we get home. I looked at Adventure and Serenade but ended up with Serenade. I've been curious about a Voyager class ship, but the Saturday departure/return and Radiance class vessel that I already know I like clinched it for Serenade.

My guess, and that is what it is, is that they run a normal cycle of cruises.

If last year was mostly Saturday departures, then this year could be mostly Sunday departures. Next year could be mostly Monday or Tuesday departures, depending in the cruising nights. Suspect it could also be related to port capacities for specific days.

Just can't arrange for all ships to depart the same day from the same port-- and we do have a few cruise ships out there.
