Haines - Day with little kids

Hi, we are about a month away from our HAL cruise on the Ryndam. I am torn on what to do in Haines. I will have my 4 and 6 year old sons and was thinking of doing the Wildlife tour at the Kroschel Film's Wildlife & Educational center but now am having second thoughts. We will be visiting the Lumberjack show in Ketchikan and checking out the town & Totem poles there, Helicopter Glacier landing in Juneau, Otter and Raptor center in Sitka with a visit to the Russia Church. I also hope to fit in a gold mine some place along the way. After the cruise we will be spending some time in Seward, where we should be able to do an easy glacier hike, the sealife ceter and a boat tour to hopefully see whales and other marie life. So any other ideas for Haines? My hesitation is that we spend a lot of time visiting Wildlife centers here on the East Coast in Maine, NH and MA. The kids have seen Moose and Bear in captivity, is this more of the same or something different? Advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

I would suggest renting a car and exploring on your own. The scenery is gorgeous and there are many places to stop, take short walks, see rivers, lakes, forest, etc. In your time frame there might even be salmon in the river and possibly bears fishing for them. This was one of my favorite ports. There is alot to see-just not touristy stuff.

Well, I spent a long time deciding about the Kroschel Wildlife tour as well. It is just DH & I, no children, but I adore wildlife of any kind and I decided to do it.

If you do a search there are a few excellent reviews and pictures. We're going in August! :D

But I won't be back to post about it until August 15th....... can you wait that long? ;)
