Heavenshelper Posted July 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2009 Hi again, I was hoping that my sister who has celiac disease can request gluten free meals during our cruise. I know that special meals must be requested well ahead of your trip, but is anyone out there with celiac disease? What was your experience? We will be on Freedom in the summer of 2010. I am thinking it would not be a problem in the dinning room, but what about WJ for breakfast/lunch? I want her to have a good experience:) Thanks!!! donvets Posted July 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2009 I also have Celiac. I have been on 6 cruises since the diagnosis, and RCCL is superb. In the Main Dining Room, they brought me GF bread each night and also the Head Waiter met with me to dicuss the next nights meals. They even modified some recipes especially for the GF diet. In the WJ, just ask talk with the Head WAITER OR Officer in charge. They had a staff member walk with me, pointing out the GF items and if there was a question about cross contamination, they brough new food from the kitchen. In the MDR on sea days, they will make GF French toast or pancakes for you, if you ask.
sadie8 Posted July 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2009 My MIL has celiac disease and has no trouble traveling. I would think she could find the same foods she eats at home in the windjammer. Omelets, eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, etc. The windjammer lunch includes a salad bar, fresh fruits, meats, veggies.

#1packerfan Posted July 14, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2009 I also have Celiac, and in the MDR the waiter went through the menu with me each night so I would know what was gf and what wasn't. They also brought gf bread, very nice gesture, but I didn't care for it so after the first night I thanked her but said not to bring it anymore. She did however bring me the flourless chocolate cake each night. In the Windjammer, I just stuck with things I knew were safe, fruit, veggies, meat, etc. I didn't have any issues at all while on board.
Cruisebylandorsea Posted July 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2009 Windjammer on our last cruise had stir fry to order and rice. Also had other vegetarian dishes. You may want to check with the Maitre d once on board the ship that they received your request for the diningroom and that your waiter & asst waiter understands what GF needs are. Once we had a language issue. Our son is lactose intolerant. One time we had to wait after the first port for them to have silk on board.
