Refrigerator Magnets

I know lots of people think they are tacky but I collect them anyway. Do you know if the gift shop has a magnet that includes all the ports of the particular cruise that you are on? When we were on Princess they had them and I'd like to get one for our upcoming Alaska cruise.

I don't think collecting magnets is tacky. We have actually thought about getting a fridge just so we could have more :D! I don't know if they have one like that in the gift shop, but at the T-shirt trading company in Juneau, they had one that said 50th anniversary of Alaska for like two bucks. Just a suggestion if you are a collector!

We collect refrig magnets from places we've been too, but I've never seen "composite" one being sold on a HAL ship ... or anywhere else for that matter. Got a friend who's taking a Princess cruise with a similar itinerary this year?

I collect refrigerator magnets!

Wish I could show you a picture of the front of our fridge, I think we have almost 100 magnets, all varieties.

I bought 4 during our cruise to Alaska.

I even brought one of our fridge magnets from home and put it on our stateroom door! It was a smiley face. The night before disembarkation, I turned it upside down.

Me too! I collect fridge magnets with photos of ships on which I've sailed. Difficult to find them on some ships, but I often get creative. On a few occasions, I have bought the key chains with the ship's picture attached and convert it too a fridge magnet when I get home. Princess seems to never have any fridge magnets with ship's pictures, at least that's been my experience.

You should see the top half of my fridge. I have been cruising since 1980 and I pick up a magnet from every port I am in. Sometimes I even use my cruise card (put magnet on back), so it is easier to see where every cruise starts. Now I am on to the bottom half of the fridge.

Though I don't normally collect magnets, I've been collecting HAL magnets of various ships that are matte silver color and substantial weight. I like these magnets and find them in each gift shop.

They're about 1 1/2" square, have an image of the ship and are clip style so can attach a note/appointment card/grocery list etc.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that collects them. The one I bought on the Princess Mexican cruise is shaped like Mexico - says Princess and Mexico on it and shows Long Beach (where we started) and also Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarto (the three ports) where they would be on the map and it is colorful. The top of my frig is almost full so I thought if I could just get one it would save room but I guess I'll just have to buy one from each port instead and start filling up the bottom door. I collect spoons from each state but magnets from different towns or attractions.

I have so many fridge magnets I've had to put some on my garage freezer! I buy a magnet for every city I've been to, including layovers. I love them and enjoy looking at them and remembering my trip/cruise. I have a Half Moon Cay one I love. I also have many Christmas ornaments from cruises, some are HAL ships. I have a Veendam Christmas ornament that brings me back to my several cruises on her each time I place it on my tree.

As for your question, I've never seen a magnet with the entire itinerary. Wouldn't that be cool! However, I don't think they'd invest in that because lines change itineraries year to year.

Do you all know that you can buy a Cruise Critic magnet for $2.50? I had one that I took along and stuck on my cabin door frame, but it was stolen a few cruises back.

I have CruiseCritic luggage tags I really like. I keep expecting one of them to be stolen when we put our bags out in the hall the last night. :(

Yep - we've got them too. :p I've got an extra that I put on my carry-on, and it has started a few conversations in airport gate areas.

I too collect magnets from ships and ports. That's the main reason I won't upgrade to a stainless refrig! Last year I got a magnet in Alaska showing a map and the ports on the Inside Passage. Not sure where I got it. Maybe Juneau.

I love collecting magnets from port cities. I am now trying to find "lady" magnets when I travel - they can sometimes be a little hard to find. My cutest one is a lady frog from Cabo San Lucas - her feet can be wiggled. Reminds me of my cruises whenever I look at the magnets.

Have em from all over world. I even painted partial kitchen walls w. magnetic paint. Ran out of paint, now no one carries it. I prefer the ones of places, usually of plaster showing scenes/place name. Best ones in Europe, esp. France. Dealer explained; they make molds in China, ship back to France & locals paint them. My BF started collecting them. I orig. dismissed them as tacky, which most are. Then I started noticing the well done ones. Local markets have interesting one done by local artists.

Try googling Magentic paint. Rustoleum carries magnetic prmer that you cover with normal paint. There seem to be quite a few ways to get it

I also collect magnets, tacky or not.

I've collected magnets from most places I've been, we have a fridge with wooden pannels so the magnets don't stay on the fridge.

Magnets are small and easy to pack, but can be heavy at times.

We have over 500 magnets, from 60 plus countries. At first, I just collected magnets with the country name, but as I returned to different regions of some countries I'd been to I started getting magnets with the city names on them.

I can't help with where to purchase Alaska magnets.

Last year I was on a Celebrity cruise and the gift store sold magnets for all ports onboard, how convenient.

Love my magnets! Got the idea from a friend. I try to get one every place I go, land or sea. Looking at my refrigerator door brings back such happy memories.

Re the Alaska one, I bought one that displays the entire inside passage in addition to ones from each town we visited. I believe I found it in Skagway, but I couldn't swear to that. Just check in all the ports you go to. It's an oval shape and shows a map of the inside passage with some of the ports identified.

Happy memories to all!

Now that's an idea! DH saves the cards in a drawer and I kept saying why don't you throw them out. And I just happen to have a ton of flat magnet type holders (i.e. for business cards) that I can use. :)
