cascader Posted July 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2009 We will be on the Crown Princess docking in Quebec Oct. 23. We are looking for a nice and reasonable hotel for one night. We don't know what area we should look to stay or a hotel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also info needed on getting from the port to the city and then to the airport.http://boards.cruisecritic.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Don M Posted July 18, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Hi cascader. Hope you enjoy all our wonderful colours in Quebec city at that time of the year. Hopefully, no snow!:p Not sure what you classify as nice and reasonable, but just about anything in the "old town" part of the city is going to be pricey. You could look at Levis, Que., which is just across the river from Quebec and would probably be much cheaper but would more than likely necessitate a cab ride. My wife is currently staying at the Comfort Inn in Levis and I don't think it is very expensive, although Oct is the Fall-colours season, so no bets. Very nice hotels in the Old City include: Chateau Frontenac, Chateau Laurier, Delta Quebec, Hilton Quebec, Loews Le Concorde and Palace Royal. If you've got FF points or something like that you could find a good deal or maybe priceline. Prices for the hotels just listed range from $165 to $300 cdn. Hope you have a great trip and are able to enjoy the sights and heritage that awaits in Quebec. Don't forget to visit the Plains of Abraham and the Old city. debca Posted July 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2009 If you are going to spend time in Quebec City do yourself a favour and stay within the walls in the old section. There are bed and breakfasts that are far more reasonable and you will be better able to get a feel of the city. The people at the bed and breakfast will be able to provide you with a unique perspective as they actually live in the city and will give you hints and what to see and avoid. Check out Quebec City tourism on the internet and they will give you a list of places to pick from. We stayed there about 2 years ago and absolutley loved walking around the city. You don't need a cab just your two legs.:)
mii Posted July 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2009 What also might help you is go to the ports of call board and scroll down to Canada. Do a search there for Quebec. All sorts of info comes up. Marilyn
Sailingpeace Posted July 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Bonjour, I have been staying in hotels in Quebec city for more than 20 years ( commute for work). Though the suggestion for Levis is interesting because , since it is right across the St-Laurent river from Quebec, you get a good view of the city, but you have to take the ferry to Quebec or a really long taxi ride. I would defenitely stay on the Quebec city side. Top hotel would be The Chateau Frontenac ( Fairmount hotel): absolute best location, views, rooms , food ( the world famous chef Jean Soulard is there), but may be more expensive ( though totally worth it if you can afford it). It is in a class by itself. If you are only there for a day, the recommandation about staying within or near the old city is absolutely right. Marriott, Delta and Hilton ( side by side) Chateau Laurier are good choices, all around parliement and walking distance to all attractions as is Le Loews Concorde ( tiny tiny bit further walk ), both are but right next to the Plaines d'Abraham and on Grande Allée. If you are only going once and can afford it : no hesitation : the Chateau Frontenac, but beeing there just for one day for the reasonnable criteria, Chateau Laurier may be the best compromise. ( and you still can go visit the Chateau Frontenac.) Bienvenue au Québec and I wish you a really nice visit! P.s. Port is smac in Old Quebec, you walk off the ship right next to one of the nicest streets called " Le petit Champlain".
mimi217 Posted July 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2009 I'm thinking of booking a cruise starting in Quebec on the Crown Princess Oct.23 (Canada and Colonial America 15 days ending in Ft.Lauderdale. We could drive to the Port, so if we rent a car we need a drop off that isn't too far from the ship. Has anyone done this. I'd appreciate any info on it. Podgieree Posted July 18, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 18, 2009 We found this place before our cruise from Quebec to Ft. Lauderdale. The price was reasonable and the service was great. We were right in town with easy walking to everywhere! Hotel Champlain, 115 rue Ste-Anne, Vieux Quebec, AB G1R3X6 Telephone: 888-872-8356 or 418-694-0106 (There telephone number may be that of the travel agency. I can't tell when I look at my documents.) This was one of our favortie cruises. Enjoy!
Podgieree Posted July 18, 2009 #8 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Our CC group ate together the night before the cruise. We went to a great resturant: D'Orsays Restaurant and Pub, 65 Rue de Baude, Vieux-Quebec. It was really yummy. I am Gluten Free and they were happy to accomodate. Have a great cruise!
