A D1 cabin will have a sofabed that supposedly sleeps two more.
julia Posted July 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2009 There is no difference size-wise.... the difference in the categories would be location.
mjldvlks Posted July 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2009 All D2 cabins can only accommodate 2 passengers. A D1 cabin will have a sofabed that supposedly sleeps two more. Generally, but not universally true. RCI makes decides the D1s are better for some reason it may be location or the accomodation [sofa bed] issue. Some times it can be really tough to figure out why they decided what they did.

This is not true for the Legend, I have a D2, with sofa bed, booked for 3 people for May 2010. Lois
cb at sea Posted July 19, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 19, 2009 Location, and number of berths---the size of the cabin is the same.
willing292 Posted July 19, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 19, 2009 D1's usually accomodate 4 PAX or connect to a cabin next to them. D2's and D3's don't connect. All 3 are the same size.

What I wrote is true for the Explorer. mjldvlks & julia, D1 and D2 are often right next door to one another. It's not always "location".
lakette3 Posted July 19, 2009 #9 Share Posted July 19, 2009 On some ships D1 balcony is larger than other D categories but room size is the same. D1 balcony on some is 80 ft and other D categories is 50 ft.

It's also not always extra berths or connecting cabins. But it's always something.
mgmigs Posted July 19, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted July 19, 2009 it is only dh and i traveling so was wondering if i should pay a few extra bucks for the D1, as long as there actually is a difference for us. i have to check the locations, i think the D2s' were further from the middle and the D1's were closer to midship but i'm not 100% certain. We ended up with a D2 a few doors down from the hump on the same deck. We were very pleased with the cabin. If the location is worth the difference to you [and only you can decide] then go for it. If you'd rather save the money, you'll be fine with a D2.
