My first Disney Cruise!

We usually sail RCCL....but sailing with an infant, Disney seemed to be the way to go! We got a great rate on a GTY cabin on the Magic for a 7nt Eastern cruise on Sept 26.

I could use some basic cruising for (this) dummy if anyone is willing to type up some tips for a DIS first timer. What is not included on Disney? I know we will be paying for Nursery service and for drinks.

I am having a hard time getting used to the disney web site. I feel soooo lost.

Thanks!

There si a tip thread at the top of the forum page, be sure and read it. It has great tips for first time crusiers.

Pop is free in the restaurant and at the drink station on deck 9, but if you order it from a bar or a waiter around the pool you are charged for it.

Bingo is extra

Spa is extra

Palo's has a $15 per person charge if you make a reservation to eat there.

Arcade costs extra

snacks for sale by the theater

we go to deck 9 and get free beverages and hot dog, fries, chicken fingers, pizza, fruit, what ever we want to snack on.

Thats all the extras i can think of right now.

There is a toddler splash zone so take swim diapers for the baby. they do sell them on board but often run out and they are costly.

Well....

Is there a Sauna on the Magic? If so is there a charge?

Why is there a 10 hour limit for infants in the nursery? Or is that just a pre-booking limit? (Not that I can imagine wanting him away from me, but if he is asleep... then we may want to have a quiet dinner.) I BF him though, so I can't be away from him for long anyway ;)

My other half wants to know if he is really allowed to bring a bottle of Jack on board?? Being able to have a glass of my favorite wine is a major plus for me!

What nights should I book the nursery for? Any not to miss adult only activities? (Palo is booked solid...so that may be a no go for us)

I think that is it so far.

Oh one more... if we book a pre-cruise and post-cruise stay at a Disney resort, do you have to pay for transportation... or is it available for a fee?

Thanks to anyone who answers ;) I feel like a kid at Christmas.... LOL

Ok I can help you some.

I dont know about the sauna, I know there is a rain forest room and I think maybe fromt here I saw a door to a sauna, but not 100% sure. we just went through for a tour, didnt use the spa.

10 hour limit is so everyone has a chance for using the nursery during the cruise. Since these are young kids they require almost one on one attention so they have to limit how many at any given hour they have to assure your child receives all the attention and care he needs.

Once the cruise starts it is usually Pretty easy to pick up an hour now and then because people do cancel. Plus some crusiers there just arnt as many using the nursery.

Palos fills up fast online but they always hold back several openings to be booked upon boarding the ship, so all is not lost;) When you check in your given a welcome aboard paper, take a minute to read it. It will give a place and time to go and make Palos reservations. This si always in one of the clubs usually right after they start boarding, so go there as soon as the paper says you can. often your put on a list and called that evening or next morning to confirm, then dash as soon as you know to the nursery to book it. If theres no opening find out when there is one and call the dining manager back and explain and they will try to work with you and the nursery to fit you in if there is anyway possible.

Yes people do bring alcohol on board. There are signs that say NO alcohol but DCL has never said a word when people bring it on board. Keep it in your carry on and they will acan it but never say a word. If you check it through ti will get broken, no matter hwo well you pack it. If you want the wine with your meal there will be a corking fee.

There are adult activities every night, so you might want to look at a Navigator on line to see what you want to see for sure and book tha tnight. Disney keep pretty much the same thing on every crusie, but soemtiems the entertainers will change but the show will be the same day and time.

They have a Disney cruise line bus for a fee, reserve in advance when you book the hotel. Typically if you go from the parks to the cruise, if wont get you there until later in the afternoon.

But if you take it from the ship to the parks you can leave early and your hotel will hold your luggage until the room is ready and you can go and enjoy the parks.

Just one thing I'd clarify on this: They will charge the corking fee for an unopened bottle of wine brought to dinner. We took a pre-opened bottle and never had any problems. Some people have reported in other places that they were charged the corking fee for an opened bottle however, so risk that one if you wish. Glasses of wine brought to dinner will not be charged a corking fee.

Your 100% correct. Thanks for clarifying.

I assumed she meant an unopened bottle.:)

The Spa is fantastic. My BFF and I paid to use the Rainforest room any time we wanted. They gave us a package deal of $65 for the two of us for a four day cruise and we were there every day. Otherwise, it is $15 a day per person. There is heated tile loungers and different rooms. A dry sauna, wet sauna, lavender room and eucalyptus room and a shower. Near the dressing room is another two showers and lounges to relax on while you use a little foot massager. Every day they have specials. We took advantage of the Ladies Night. $125 for a mini facial, scalp massage, back massage, foot massage. Then another day I got the Cleopatra special. That was devine. I cannot wait for our Dec cruise, I already have lots of $$ set aside for spa time.:D
