hansol1966 Posted July 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2009 Queen victoria takes 7 days, Queen Elizabeth.. Queen Vic tandem crossing 8 days. The QM2 moving to 7days (helps with a weekly schedule) but who would book the QM2 on a flat out speed crossing like the old Blue riband days?. Also how long is to long to cross the pond?. Should the winter crossing club pass to the only ocean liner working or cunards cruise ships? Sorry to much time on my hands.....just wondering. pepperrn Posted July 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2009 but who would book the QM2 on a flat out speed crossing like the old Blue riband days? Hi. Sadly, QM2 can't, ever, take the Blue Riband. The power to weight ratio...
hansol1966 Posted July 28, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted July 28, 2009 Sorry i meant experiencing the QM2 on a crossing at full tilt for what she is capable... I accept she has the drawback of the present day balconies and would never get close to (Richard Bransons record....) but it would be nice to see how she does. Rare Host Sharon Posted July 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2009 QE2 at close to full speed was magnificent and a real thrill to experience. Alas ...no more!! It sure beats cruising!

Steeplechaser Posted July 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2009 Ah, yes, power to weight, or the inverse. The SS US, which still holds the record at 3 days, 12 hours and 12 min., W bound, has - had - a weight to power ratio of 430 # / hp. Our QM2 has one of 1,924 # / hp, or about 4.47 #/hp times more. But I don't care. I like being aboard at any velocity and seeing the sea!
