cutibear62 Posted July 30, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2009 My husband and I will be going on a european cruise at the end of august and I was wondering what the best way to pay for things at the ports. SHould I use a credit card or carry cash. I hate to carry so much cash and then again I don't really want to use the credit card all the time because I was told you are charged a conversion fee. Does anybody have advice or experience on this? Thanks in advance
navybankerteacher Posted July 30, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2009 Bring an ATM card - ATM machines are everywhere, and they are the best way (fairest exchange rate) to exchange US $ for Euros (or other local currency). You also avoid the risk of carrying large amounts of cash.
uppitycats Posted July 31, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2009 Definitely your credit card. Check with your card carrier, but generally they offer the better exchange rate than you'd get with cash, not to mention the worry of carrying around that much cash, and looking for banks or other places to exchange it for Euros, or whatever currency you might need. Even if there is a small conversion fee, it's worth not having the hassle of having to track the cash every day.
koolforkatz Posted July 31, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2009 I've always heard your credit card is the best option because of the favourable exchange rates.
