discouraging reviews

Recommended Posts

This is my first post here. We have cruised Disney several times and are now looking to cruise RC on one of the Voyager ships. I have read so many negative reviews on the review board I am starting to get cold feet.Where are the positive reviews? Has anyone done disney also to compare?

Thanks for any help.

Beth

I have been on the Disney Wonder and then went on the Navigator and the Mariner. I really enjoyed the Wonder, I loved the other 2 ships. Relax, go and you will have a fantastic time!

BethA..I've done one Disney and one RC Voyager cruise. Both lines have their strong points. For us, the food was better on Disney, but the entertainment on RC was far superior. We also felt there was a lot more to do on the Navigator and we loved the decor of the Navigator much more. Also LOVE the promenade on the voyager ships. And finally...the overall price of RC was less expensive. We truly loved the voyager class ships and have a 2nd RC cruise booked for 2005. Try it and form your own opinions.

Hi Beth, My wife went on the Wonder about a year ago. I have done 4 RCI cruises and have found each on better then the Wonder. NOT that the wonder was bad it was very good. I think the food is better on the RCI ships, more adult entertainment don't mean crude just not as geared to kids. I have enjoyed both of the lines private beaches both are great. I have not done a voyager ship but I will in 05 sometime and I think it will be the best of 8 cruises yet. Go have fun regardless of the negative reviews you notices that they do it time and time again. It certainly can't be that bad or they would not be cruising every chance they get. Enjoy Ramjet

Have been on 3 RC cruises and have had a great time. Booked 4th cruise for next year. Have never booked Disney although we have looked into it but price and no casino have kept us away. This last cruise we got quotes for both and Rc was $3-4K less for our family.

Just remember that a lot of people on these boards use them to vent their frustration, because they have sympathetic "listeners". We are only a fraction of the people cruising on RCI.

It's a great cruise line, and I've tried others, too. We keep coming back to it!

Beth,

I have done 4 RCI cruises, 2 NCL, 1 Carnival and 1 Celebrity. I have never done Disney. I can tell you that we love RCI and especially the voyager class ships. I really think your family will have a great time on RCI. Go with an open mind and be prepared to have a blast!! Would a Pittsburgher steer you wrong???

We have no kids, so we have never been tempted by a Disney cruise. But I know my niece and nephew loved the RCL cruise they were on, out of Galveston, because of the kids' activities on board. (That was a Vision class ship, but I don't know which one.)

We went 7 months ago on the AOS, a Voyager class ship. We were absolutely charmed by all the care that went into their children's and teen areas. It was a big enough ship to find plently of things to do without children around, but it always felt like a fun family cruise. And how else are you going to see an ice show at sea? ( A must-see)

Going on our last cruise caused me to catch to cruise bug BIG time. I bet the Voyager will do the same for you.

I have never cruised on a Disney ship, but was on the Navigator last week. This was my second cruise with RCI, and my first voyager class. I was a bit concerned as well, after reading all the negative reviews. It was by far the best cruise ever. The food was excellent, the service was excellent(except for one cranky guy at the guest relations desk), the ports were great, and the ship was beautiful. There was always something going on....never a dull moment, and there was always somewhere to eat! I would definitley recommend a voyager class ship, especially the Navigator! I will be going on it again this fall for the eastern itinerary!

I just returned Sunday, May 9th, from Mariner cruise. I, like you, had read so many negative remarks about this ship that I was beginning to worry. I have been on Voyager and Exployer and I thought they were wonderful. I can honestly tell you that this is the best ship I've been on. The service that we've heard so many bad things about was absolutely outstanding. The employees on board go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. They are very proud of their ship! The room attendents are very personable and take wonderful care of you. I could find our attendant anytime I needed her and to make sure they're available to you, they leave a card with their number. Our room was always made up whenever we wanted. The food is just as it has always been...very good. and the talent on board is wonderful. The only negative thing I read that turned out to be fact was that you can certainly feel the movement of the ship, but I was told this is because we've on The Atlantic Ocean and it is always rougher there. Please don't waste your time worrying about the negatives you've been reading...you will be amazed at the Voyager class ships. I promise!

I too have read many reviews lately that have been very negative but there is no way that I will let those reviews keep me away from my cruise on the Navigator in December.

Just to show how much we all look at things in a different way, my sister and her family cruised on the Disney Wonder a few years back and she stated that the food was the worst of any cruise that she has taken and she has taken many.

I say book and look forward to your cruise. I know that I am.

We were on a Voyager class ship last month. We found Navigator of the Seas to be beautiful, the service excellent and the food in the main dining room to be very good. The food and service in the alternative restuarants were over the top. We had a wonderful time and did not want to get off the ship when it was time to disembark.

If I believed everything I read on these boards, I wouldn't go back for my second dip on the Navigator in October. It is human nature to complain more than compliment and to remember the bad easier than the good. Many of the repeat posters on these boards are obviously quite human. Many also have nothing better to do than live on these boards and try to discourage others.

If you book a cruise on an Eagle class (Voyager) ship, you will find out there is nothing else quite like them on the seas today.

Thanks for all the great responses. I know not everyone enjoys the same things and I'm sure there are times on any vacation people have bad experiences or different perceptions. It was just an overwhelming number of terrible reports that had me worrying. You've put my mind at ease quite a bit. We are going this June on Disney and next June on the AOS or explorer so I will continue to look here for info and great reports.

I have not sailed on Disney, but I have sailed on Voyager class ships and I had a great time every time. No matter how good things are people will find something to complain about. I was recently on a cruise on the Galaxy and someone else wrote a review of the same cruise. You would think that we were on two different ships. The other person complained about numerous things while we completely enjoyed outselves and had nothing to complain about at all. Go on a Voyager class ship and enjoy yourself. The only way you will have a bad time is if you are determined to have a bad time.

dgund's comment reminded me - I could not get my DH to get ready the last day. He did NOT want the cruise to be over. The only way I could get him to leave the cabin was to remind him that our cabin steward had to get the room ready for the next guests. (We just loved our steward.) Otherwise, he might still be stowing away on the AOS.

We have done both Disney and RC twice now. You will not be sorry selecting a Voyager class ship. The kids' programs are excellent - my son never wants to leave! The ships are so big and beautiful and there's lots for everyone to do.

I did enjoy the rotational dining on the Wonder - that's one thing that makes them a little special.

We booked our next cruise shortly after we got home - gave my son a choice between Disney and RCCL and he wanted to go on the Voyager, or as he put it "the mother ship."

We've also sailed both lines. We absolutely loved Disney, but still prefer the Voyager-class ships! Our Son, 9, also loved our Disney cruise but when we recently took him on Explorer of the Seas and at the end of the week I asked him if he was enjoying himself as much as he did on Disney, he said, "I am enjoying myself even more!" We also gave him the choice of the next ship and he chose to go on another Voyager-class ship!

We haven't done Disney, but as you can see we are not novice cruisers and have liked or loved every one we have taken. You get out of things what you put in. Our only real negative about RCL period was the small cabins. Every line has pros and cons as mentioned and certain people find it their duty to let us all know what a cruddy time they had. Mass market is exactly that. Every line has some similarities and differences and all offer a wonderful vacation experience. NMNIta

Thanks for all the great comments. We booked the June 26, 2005 Southern cruise on the AOS. I'm sure I'll be getting all the information I can here. Any sites with compasses?

I've noticed while trying to book my upcoming cruise...that RCCL really takes advantage of the fact that families are driven to the Voyager class of ships...the 3rd and 4th passenger prices are almost the same as the 1st and 2nd....whereas on the ships I've sailed on...as well as my upcoming...I only pay 1/3 of the cost for 3rd and 4th...that is the only way I can afford to take my kids. Supply and demand I guess. I don't know if I'll ever be able to sail on the Voyager class...for the four of us during Feb vacation it was going to cost a fortune.

dentalchic - curious as to who you are using for your cruise bookings. On both of our RCCL trips, my son was less than half of what the adult fare was. We use buycruises in case you're interested.
