Abram797 Posted August 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2009 I'd like to get some recommendations for Travel Insurance. I'm hoping a few Cruise Critic members will offer advice on companies that they have used and would recommend. We are doing the Carnival Valor 2/7/10. Thanks for everyone's input in advance. You might want to type "trip insurance" into an internet search engine. You'll come up with several non-biased sites where you can compare plans, figure out what you specifically need or want in insurance, and get some idea about pricing. insuremytrip dot com is one such site, but there are others. We've always used TravelGuard, but mainly because it's local to our state, the first we ever used, and I haven't tried to shop around.. :o
JanineM Posted August 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2009 I always go to www dot insuremytrip dot com and select the best policy for us at the time we sail. If you have pre-existing conditions, be sure to get your insurance within a day or so of original booking!
Steph123 Posted August 2, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2009 I bought Travel Guard and will soon find out how good they are. I did buy it within a week of first deposit to cover any prexisting conditions even though there weren't any. Just extra careful. We are canceling a cruise to Alaska. My husband needs a knee replacement. He is on crutches and in a great deal of pain. We can't even go out to dinner or a movie, there is no way he could sit on a plane for 5 or 6 hrs. or be able to enjoy and do the walking involved. When I bought the insurance I was told that it would not cover the fee to put FF points back on the acct. because it was not a prepaid cost. When I talked to Travel Guard last week about canceling I was told that was a cancellation fee and would be covered. I will post how it works out. beachchick Posted August 3, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Which one is best varies from person to person. Length of trip, all components of trip (cruise, air, hotel, etc.), ages of people traveling, what you want covered, whether you need pre-existing medical conditions covered, whether you want coverage for job loss or other special circumstances, and many more concerns. There is no single answer. Your best bet is to figure out what coverage you want/need, then go to insuremytrip dot com (or any other site that allows you to compare coverage of multiple insurers) and input your particulars. That will allow you to find the coverage that's best for you and your situation. beachchick
